My mother and I stayed overnight recently on 08 July 2016 and enjoyed B and B stay. We were on the 3rd floor of the new wing and slept well away from all wedding festivity elsewhere in the hotel. Beds were comfortable, room clean and staff helpful. Plenty of parking. I managed to sample the leisure pool and spa on Saturday morning too! I would recommend it and admired the quirky giant velvet throne seats in the lobby for photos. DM from ATHLONE

Corridor noise very loud in bedroom due to wooden floors, the beds in the room moved when people went by the room at night. No milk or teabags left in room after room refresh. Wouldn't rate it as 4 star and wouldn't be enticed to visit again.

Our stay at the Hillgrove Hotel was very nice and relaxing - the staff were very friendly and helpful. We requested a large family room with 2 single and 1 double and we were accommodated accordingly. The kids club was very good and kept our 10 year old entertained - however, one down side is that there is nothing to do for young teenagers 12 - 14 year olds - who are not particularly into sports - perhaps a gaming room with internet so they could use their own (or hotel) Wii/X-box, laptop type scenario might work for this age group - to play games, meet new friends of same age or listen to music and/or a library / reading room!!!! Worth the visit and we will defo return in the near future. .

Be very careful when booking 2 rooms. I booked 2 twin rooms for 4 ppl (2 in each!) when I arrived only 1 had been allocated to me for 2ppl. Hotel hotel was completely booked for the night and the best they could do ( and I had to settle for was a room with a double bed and 2 singles) on this occasion it was fine as we were and family and female, but original my partner was to come with my sisters and me (that would have been awkward!!). The hotel were very apologetic and did there very best to make up for their mistake, I would definitely go back. But before I ever go to any hotel again I'll be ringing in advance to make sure I'm getting what I asked for!!

We had a lovely stay in the hotel. Rooms were spacious and clean and beds were very comfy. The hotel was also very quiet at night time and we had a great sleep. We went for a girly spa break and we all had a lovely time.

this was our 2nd time in the hillgrove. we have a 2 year old and a 6 year old, and the 6 year old loved the kids club. Its such a family friendly hotel, the staff are really friendly and helpful. Its clean, rooms are really nice, the pool is great, unfortunately haven't been able to avail of the spa facilities but hopefully next time. Really recommend this hotel especially for families.

We had a great experience in Hillgrove hotel. The room is very clean and all the staff were so helpful, friendly and approachable (receptionist, restaurant staff and leisure area staff). The location of the hotel is also accessible to monaghan town, just few mins walk away. We definitely recommend this hotel when visiting Monaghan and would certainly go back when given the chance. There was a renovation going on while we were visiting the hotel but didn't affect us in any way.

My fiance and I joined my sister and her family for the weekend in the Hillgrove. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, couples and families. In fact I have been told by my fiance that the Hillgrove is a top contender for our wedding and we live in Belfast. So I hope this will let you know how much we did enjoy it.

Recently stayes during the Halloween break. Really impressed with this hotel. Excellent for families with top notch swimm and leisure centre and kids club. Rooms a good size and comfortable. Food in bar very good. Only issue was breakfast, fry had gone cold and we were the first people down to breakfast. Seems other people thought the same judging by full plates left on tables. Pity about breakfast but I have recommended this hotel to family and they have already booked it. Will return. Gillian

We brought our 3 boys in October. The common areas are a reminder of past days when designers were allowed to go mad with there crazy ideas. Unfortunately they are also very tired at this stage. The boys loved the kids club. It was as good as any we have been to. The food was mediocre but acceptable. The outstanding feature of the hotel was the staff. They were happy, helpful and very attentive. That counts for a lot. We won't be back but I wouldn't stop anyone else trying it. In all we have had better Lidl breaks.

We stayed last week for 3 nights in this Hotel in a family room. We had a lovely stay. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar food was very good and reasonably priced. We did not eat in the restaurant. The leisure centre was lovely with plenty of facilities. We had a very enjoyable break and would recommend it to any family.

I had a lovely stay at the hotel the food was fab,my only fault was the lenght of time we were left in lobby waiting to be seated for dinner and also the drink in the bar was warm when poured from the tap. These faults would not prevent me from going again.

We had a lovely stay in the Hillbrook Hotel. We found all the facilities to be excellent. The room was spacious with lovely decor and spotlessly clean. All the staff that we met were very friendly and had excellent customer services skills, from the reception to the waiting staff they couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and you had a great choice for breakfast with food for everyone's individual preference. As I love swimming I used the leisure facilities on a number of occasions, even though we only went for one night, I managed to fit in 3 trips to the pool. Once again the staff in the leisure facilities were very friendly and helpful with excellent customer services skills. The pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, were spotless and there was also an outdoor jacuzzi which for me was a first and I couldn't resist using the bucket shower outdoors as well. The dressing room in the leisure centre was well designed, spotlessly clean and had big comfortable leather chairs to sit on when you were drying your hair. We hope to go back there in about 6 weeks for another break as we really found it so relaxing and I was so disappointed that we hadn't booked for 2 nights but as it is only a 50 minute drive away from were we live we will take in a few mini breaks there throughout the coming year. Well recommended!

Spent a night in the Hillgrove Hotel last weekend (June 2012) when attending a wedding. And I have to say I couldn't fault a thing. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was bright and spacious. It was located in the 'old' part of the building that was either refurbished/rebuilt only about 15 years ago so it's not really that old and has a modern feel and layout. The décor has obviously been updated since… Most importantly it was spotless. The food was excellent. The meal at the wedding was top drawer, and the fry the next morning was one of the best I have had. All nice and fresh, good selection and all the usual continental choices on offer if the fry wasn’t for you. Didn’t sample the bar food but judging by the amount of people eating it must be good. Made use of the leisure centre the next morning and it is good too. Plenty of all the usual gym equipment, pool, steam room sauna etc..etc.. There is two Jacuzzis, one inside and one outside. The outside one on a rainy day is an experience not to be missed. Warm body, cold head, very weird feeling… It is well located, just 5 min walk from the very centre of the town where you will find numerous busy bars and night clubs. The Squealing Pig, Master Deerys, and The Puc Fada to name a few. I would defiantly stay again.

Friendly family hotel, walking distance to town centre, we got a special offer in the spa and thought the staff were excellant in there, however as the leisure centre has sauna, hot tub etc.. Would be expensive if we had paid full price. Overall a great hotel and would be happy to stay there again if special offers continue.

A lovely family hotel, kids really enjoyed at staying. There are a lot of facility for kids such as game room & kid swimming pool.Staff are friendly, efficeient & helpful. The only thing we don't like is that they charge me for €2.1@ for a pair of hotel slipper for the entry into swimming pool.

Westport scored 3 / 5 on 28/02/2011

Lovely hotel with a family feel...great deal as room was adequate, bar food yummy (if expensive) and leisure centre was a huge bonus. Free parking and wifi also. Negatives included the miniture towels, lack of television channels and the charge for fitflipos and a swimming cap to use the pool.

Had a lovely stay at the Hillgrove rooms basic but comfortable staff very friendly Breakfast very good but evening meal wasn't great not a lot of choice steak very bland. Outdoor hot tub very relaxing.

Stayed in the hotel on Sat 22nd Jan 2011. Lovely hotel room perfectly situated away from any noise of the function room. Fabulous swimming pool and gym facilities Breakfast was standard ,basic and lacked a better selection of breads ect .Taking into consideration that it only cost a mere %u20AC78 euro for two adults and one child it was great value and I would highly recommend it.

Stayed at the hotel on Saturday 15th January. Was a bit disappointed to get a room in the old part of the hotel. I think this happens if you book the cheap rates in hotels. The staff were extremely friendly and the food in the bar was excellent. Check out was for 11am however I asked for a late check out at the reception and there was no problem at all, checked out at 12.30pm with no one putting pressure on you to check out. The rooms were large but not as modern as the room I had the last time I stayed there. Overall enjoyed stay.

This is a beautiful hotel. We arrived at 2.00pm on a Saturday and myself, husband and 10 yr old daughter booked in to a lovely room. It was a twin room with a large double bed and a single. The room was very comfortable and had tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer, trouser press, television and WiFi. We ate in the bar downstairs and as we were having dinner out later on, we opted for the toasted sandwiches of turkey, ham and stuffing. They were gorgeous. We arrived back in the evening and although there was a wedding on, we weren't disturbed with noise. We didn't have a great sleep (does anyone in a hotel? We're used to a memory foam mattress and deeper pillows) and headed to breakfast at 8.30am. There was a good selection of cereals, yogurts, pastries, fruit and your choice of what you wanted in your cooked breakfast. Checkout is early at 10.00am but no-one was hounding us out at 10.20am. we checked out but had full use of the leisure centre for the rest of the day if we wanted. We went swimming in their lovely pool. I was delighted to find decent hairdryers supplied and straighteners! This is a really lovely hotel and the reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. The total cost only came to %u20AC78.00 booking it with Lidl Breaks which was excellent value for a four star hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be checking out Lidl Breaks again. Westmeath Couple
