IT is a nice hotel but we were very dissapointed with our request not being given, we request room that facing the sea or other better view, but we were given a room that facing roof top, as we have two kids the hotel did not prepare an extra bed, we have to ask and was given a broken bed, my daughter had to sleep on the floor, until the second day they change the bed. the receptionist keep saying very sorry all fully booked and sorry all the time, she says seaview room we have to pay extra. Quite dissapointing, but the breakfast was very good, it is a nice hotel overall.

We are just back from The Inishowen Gateway Hotel and it is the ideal place to tour the inishowen peninsula. the hotel itself is average. The rooms are in need of serious updating. The curtains in our room were falling apart with holes in the black out lining. the breakfast was average with big jumbo sausages which were spicy and we didn't like them and the bacon was dried up there was never enough OJ or milk at the self service area and there were never teaspoons on the table and after asking 10 times we got 1 spoon between 4. There was a constant noise in my room which was 401 like a hoover coming on and off all night and when i complained to reception after the first night they said they would look into it but that was it i had to put up with it for my 3 night stay. The swimming pool is very deep for children and its the same depth the whole way along which is about 4ft 8" they have a small kiddies poo aswelll. The pool staff were very nice and provided toys and arm bands for children. There was music in the bar on the Tue and Thur we were there which was very good. All in all it is a nice hotel but needs a few tweaks and somebody needs to wake up the breakfast staff a snail would move faster they need to stop chatting to each other and fixing there hair and serve there customers. I would recommend the hotel and oh my god the sights up there are beautiful i'll be back :)

Place was busy as it was mid-term holidays and there was a function but this did not over whelm public areas. Hotel was clean, warm and comfortable. However hotel rooms and Leisure centre in particular is in much need of updating, especially the pool area regarding scrappy mismatched tile work, flaking paint, very wet changing room areas. Also the water height in the pool is up to the same level as the surrounding walk area. There was aqua aerobics in the pool on the last morning but staff did not share this information with guests. Local people attending the pool told visitors in the changing area about it when it was over, which was a shame. Ate in the hotel on both nights and food portions were actually quite mean and had to wait way too long between courses, unsure if this was due to the fact that we were on a set menu. Highlighted this with staff but they did not seem concerned, menu description of dishes was also misleading. While breakfast was good with plenty of choice, food areas were extremely slow at been replenished, leaving people waiting on basic food items juice/bread/fruit and hot food trays left open as food went cold. Do not let this put you off booking a Lidl break as I have experienced in a different hotel great meals, which were outstanding in quality, choice, portion size and serve from staff was excellent, so it obviously depends on the hotel you choice to stay in not the fact that you go on a Lidl break.

Dated decor but clean, warm and friendly staff. Spent time in spa beautician very good at treatments and had relaxation area too ourselves! Large bar no atmosphere which was a sham but would recommend the hotel for a short break with good facilities and near all amenities.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel. Most of the staff were really friendly and eager to help. The room which was pretty basic was very clean and had a lovely view of the golf course and loch. We were also able to avail of a free round of golf in the nearby golf club as part of our stay which was a nice bonus. We ate in the restaurant the first night and the waiting staff couldn't have been more helpful however we feel that the food just was n't as good as it might have been. One of us ordered the chicken caesar salad and we were unable to find a single piece of chicken in the whole dish. The helpings in general were very small and despite having ate a 2 course meal we were hungry an hour or so afterwards. The second night we thought it might be better to eat in another restaurant in the village but at the last minute we decided to eat in the bar. Again the service was impeccable but portions were too small and over priced. Overall we were very happy with our stay at the hotel and we have already recommended it to friends and family.

Lovely hotel. Great for families. Lunch in the bar was gorgeous. Food in the restaurant could be better but did not take away from our experience. Would definitely return.

Sharonc scored 3 / 5 on 14/02/2012

The room was lovely, clean and just what we needed, breakfast was a bit hit and miss,, very basic the restaurant is very dark, shabby and quite small for the amount of tables in it. The kids play area is more suited to very young children but a good idea, the location is excellent and the staff are very friendly and attentive. We weren't told that our room was close to a private function room and a as result we were woken at 02.30am on the Sunday morning to a "ceili" going on, we had a 7 month old baby and it meant we were then up all night. Overall a nice hotel we would stay there again

Amanda scored 4 / 5 on 22/11/2011

A nice enough 3 star hotel, the rooms were clean but the decor in bathroom/rooms could do with a bit of updating. The playroom/activity centre for kids in the hotel was excellent - Wii, library, table tennis, toys for toddlers, arts and crafts, etc . Breakfast nice but evening meal menu very basic.

Reviewer48936394 scored 2 / 5 on 24/10/2011

We stayed in room 405- it was very basic-not what you see in the picture above- it was very dark no proper sitting area- also the window wouldnt close properly so we were frozen and one of the children couldnt sleep right with the noise of the wind howling in the window. would opt never to stay again.

Louise scored 5 / 5 on 01/09/2011

Stayed two nights before the kids went back to school, really enjoyed the break, the kids loved the pool, and the staff there were very friendly and helpful. The soft play area was nice for younger kids, but really suited for up to 11 yrs, kids would get bored with it, the staff there were also friendly. The room was cosy, though alot of traffic passing by the main road during the night, so the noise may annoy some people. The bar was very quiet for the hotel being so busy, but that didnt bother us. Enjoyed our stay, and would return again. louise, 28 August

Went here with our 2 year old. I would highly recommend to anyone with children as the hotel provides plenty to occupy them in the planet active zone.. The maids were very friendly as well as the bar staff. Would definitely visit again.

the hotel itself was nice, food was ok but not great,we had our 9 month old baby with us and the kettle in the room was filty i asked twice could they change the kettle and showed her the dirty water and i was told the water was like that in buncrana even though i was using bottled water eventually i brought the kettle down when the lady changed her shift when th gentleman on the reception seen how dirty it was he apolagised and changed it straight away,if you stay here with a baby do check the kettle as if its like the one we had it could make a child very sick.

Firstly I must congratulate Lidl for their superb value breaks.Hotel was very nice and staff were very friendly.Beautiful location, our room overlooked the golf course, the water and the mountains, beautiful scenery.Food was just ok,nothing exciting.Overall would recomend this hotel for the scenery alone.

Spanner scored 5 / 5 on 30/04/2011

We stayed for three nights in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel over the Easter period. The hotel was in an picturesque location surrounded by pristine beaches. There was lots to do within the surrounding area with breathtaking views. The hotel had excellent facilities for children and the pool was clean. The kids club was superb. However the food was below average with artifical 'powered ' orange juice being served for breakfast and frozen chips being served in the bar. The breakfast room was crowded with minimal staffing levels and there was a long wait to be seated for breakfast each morning. Overall if more attention were paid to the quality of food served and the presentation of food then this would have improved my overall opinion of this hotel . The hotel is clean and spacious and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. In general an average hotel which requires updating and redecorating. There was a smell of urine in the bathroom amd the shower curtain was grotty. These details need to be attended to to order to make this a great hotel as opposed to an average hotel.

We spent three nights at The Inishowen Gateway Hotel during the Easter Bank Holiday week-end and had a wonderful time. The hotels facitities are fantastic, the staff are very friendy, the food in the bar and restaurant is very good. The kids club has to be commended. The hotel is ideally situated for touring the Inishowen Penisula. I can highly reccomend this hotel. Ann-Marie

We had a great long weekend in Buncrana. The hotel is very nice, and very suitable for families. The pool is big, 25m I think, good for lengths. There is a fantastic indoor play area (it's actually about the size of a large football pitch) which caters for all ages. We brought our 10 month old there and she loved it, but theres loads for anyone up to 10 - or beyond...we enjoyed a couple of quick games of table tennis and air hockey too.. Just one negative point was that a couple of friends (and child) were put in a smoking room without being asked. The food in the bar was very good and quite reasonable, and I found the staff to be very professional and mostly friendly and helpful. Brilliant value overall. I'm sure we will be back.

We really enjoyed our short stay in this lovely hotel. We were greeted by friendly staff on our arrival and our room was spacious and very clean and with an excellent view as we requested when booked. The breakfast was worth getting out of bed for and all the staff were very friendly and helpful during our short stay. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Buncrana. Definetly 5 stars from us.

The service and food was excellent. We received a truly warm Donegal fáilte on arrival and it last throughout out 24 hours stay there. When I drew back the curtains in the morning ( we had arrived late at night), the view from our room took my breath away it was so beautiful - our room overlooked a golf course which led down to the sea, sunrise was just amazing that morning. I would have no hesitation in returning to the Inishowen Gateway and will be recommending it to my friends.

We stayed in The Innisowen Gateway Hotel on 23rd September, the Staff were very friendly, the food was delicious,it is only a short stroll from the beach. We requested a room with a view of Lough Swilly which was clean, warm, and spacious, did not have time to visit the Leisure Center. Overall a lovely Hotel and we will stay there again. Well done Lidl for your great value for money Breaks, from, Peter and Maureen.

Michelle scored 4 / 5 on 19/10/2010

Great hotel, food excellent & fabulous location for site seeing trips. The only thing that spoiled our stay was our room location. Our room looked out on a flat roof & our view was a housing estate. Would have given it 5 stars if I had a room with a view of the golf course & Lough Swilly. I wouldn't like to think that because I booked a Lidl hotel break that I was given this room. But apart from that I couldn't fault the staff or the hotel.
