THE LOCATION WAS VERY SCENIC WITH A LOVELY BEACH FRONT WALK. THE MAJORITY OF STAFF WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL BUT THE TWO MEN ON RECEPTION WERE NOT VERY FRIENDLY OR WELCOMING.. THE ROOMS WERE SMALL AND THE MENU FOR DINNER WAS VERY LIMITED AS YOU COULD NOT ORDER FROM THE REGULAR MENU. HOWEVER, THE FOOD WAS VERY NICE. THE SMOKE ALARM IN OUR ROOM WAS COVERED WITH A PLASTIC BAG AND THE HALLWAYS SMELT SLIGHTLY OF CIGARETTE SMOKE. THE WIFI WAS EXCELLENT AND THERE WAS A NICE POOL TABLE IN THE TOWER BAR WHERE WE HAD OUR DINNER AND DRINKS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU COME TO THIS HOTEL YOU REQUEST A ROOM WITH A BALCONY AS THEY HAVE A NICER VIEW AND ARE BIGGER (BUT MORE EXPENSIVE). I FEEL LOW PRICE BREAK EQUALS LOW QUALITY SERVICE.

Waterside scored 3 / 5 on 20/10/2015

Lovely hotel, but the staff really leave it down. During our meal we were brought butter but no bread for 20 mins, no steak knife until 10 mins after steak being served, glass of wine that was ordered was brought half way through meal, there appeared to only be two staff in the restaurant. On check out the bill was incorrect even though they had all morning to prepare it. The views are fab, rooms appear to have been painted and new beds recently. Bar area could do with a bit of updating.

First I was given wrong persons room only found out when I got to room. Booked a dinner B&B package. When ordering food from the bar menu I was told there was a separate menu for me. I couldn't put any of the credit towards a better meal from the bar menu rather than the set dinner B&B menu which was poor. I would have paid the extra. Going through the bar to get to the room a bit weird. Overall place is nice, rooms are nice and very close to a nice beach.

RE: Booking Reference 910064696 I replied to your request for a rating on the Waterside House Hotel earlier this evening. I got a message that my rating would be posted. My message was to let you know that I could not avail of the booking on 10th June. I was not aware that my reply would be posted and I would ask that you not post my reply as it was not a rating it was merely to let you know that I could not avail of the booking. Geraldine.

RE: BOOKING REFERENCE: 910064696 I refer to my purchase of a Lidl Break at the Waterside House Hotel, Donabate on 10th June, 2015. Unfortunately we did not get to avail of the night away because our car broke down on the motorway on the journey approx 50 km from Dublin on 10th June. Although our insurance covered us to tow the car home, we were not provided with a replacement car because it was a breakdown and not an accident. We had to travel home in the tow truck. It is costing us almost €1000 to fix the car. We intended to collect our daughter from Dublin airport on the 11th June and we were looking forward to that also. However she had to take the bus home to Galway instead. All in all, it was a very disappointing and traumatic event for us. I had the Lidl Voucher with me but there is no contact details on the Voucher. I got the phone number of the Waterside Hotel on my Iphone and I rang them as soon as I could. However, they said the €85.22 would be deducted from my account as I had not cancelled the reservation before 48 hours. I understand that rules have to be in place but I would be very obliged if you would consider giving me an alternative night away to make up for the disappointment. I work in the vicinity of Lidl in Galway and I am a frequent shopper in Lidl so I consider myself a loyal customer. I gave the hotel a 4 star rating based on information received from my relations who live in Dublin and who are familiar with the hotel. Yours sincerely, Geraldine Healy.

This is a little gem of a hotel. Right on the shore with amazing views of Howth Head and great walk along the shore to the north and across the beach to the south. Wasn't great weather while we were there but still enjoyed the patio and steps down to the beach. It would be really beautiful in summer months. The rooms are great with a couch and lovely big picture windows. The ones with balcony or terrace look lovely...............booked out when we got there. We had a 2 course evening meal and it was great. Really well presented and great quality. The staff were lovely and very friendly even though they were very busy at the June weekend. It would be nice if there had been a lobby or larger reception to sit and read a paper etc but that's just a minor issue. Will be going again.

Spent three nights there 19-22/05/15 as a location for travelling into Dublin City by train for sightseeing and shopping. Beautiful location, wonderful food and very friendly and helpful staff. BUT the bedrooms and bathrooms (even after upgrading) were a total let down as regards cleanliness. Spoke to Graeme, the general manager, on way out and he explained the hotel had been taken over recently by Choice Hotels and they were in the process of a total refurbishment. Apologised for issues I raised and has invited myself and my husband back for two nights later on in the year. Happy with that. Overall enjoyed our time there.

We just spent 1 overnight value break with Dinner and Breakfast in this hotel. Lovely staff and a great location with sea views. Big long beach all the way to Malahide and Cliff walk the other way to Portrane with views of Lambay Island. We could not believe it was so near from Dublin. Room was cosy and warm with tea coffee available shampoo etc in bathroom. Beds and linen very comfortable. The only complaint was that the tea/coffee at breakfast was served in 'self service' flasks. Otherwise a great value hotel and we will be back....

We had a great stay at the Waterside, the staff are amazingly friendly & helpful, beautiful room, with magnificent views of Dublin bay, would recommend booking sea view room. Food was good, and great breakfast arrived on time, oh, did I mention the great staff ??

Excellent week-end spent there recently. Total relaxation with friendly efficient staff through-out. From Lauren at reception to Greame, nothing was a problem and everything was done to make our stay a warm friendly one. This atmosphere permeates throughout. Restaurant and bar food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Beautiful outside area for eating and drinking overlooking the sea and excellent walking available along the shore line which laps up to the hotel. Unfortunately breakfast was a little let down but only in comparison to the very high standards set elsewhere in the hotel. Overall I will be returning and soon without hesitation and would recommend it to anyone looking for a value for money break and treat. Peter Whelan.

Stayed for 1 night. Staff were excellent. Room was basic but wifi didnt work despite help from manager. Had food in the bar, wasnt great despite being pricey as was the drink. Great location with nice terrace and gardens even in winter. Would give hotel 3 stars but staff deserve 5. Thank you . Joe.

Myself and my spouse took advantage of a one night Bed and Breakfast package which included one evening meal. The hotel has a wonderful setting beside Donabate beach. Our room at the front of the hotel overlooked the beach. It was nicely furnished if a little small but is very comfortable. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant. This meal was of a very high standard. Presentation was lovely, food was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely delicious. Service was courteous, professional and without fault. We had a few drinks in the bar where a table quiz was organised. We joined in and had a really fun night. Every member of staff we met was so friendly and helpful. I could not find fault with this establishment - it was delightful experience. We both enjoyed our stay at the Waterside and recommend it without reservation.

Excellent hotel all round the staff are very friendly and helpful . Myself and three friends had a great time and we will certainly return. The best part was the evening meal their chefs would put Gordon Ramsey to shame absolutely fantastic food, presentation and service. Rooms perhaps a bit tired but still good.

What a beautiful hotel! Milena on reception was so helpful as were all the staff. We had a room with seaview, and the best bit was breakfast on the balcony and the sun beating down.Felt we were in sunny Spain. Food in this hotel is excellent with a choice of dining in the bar or the restaurant.Watch out for great deals for the Waterside.Only back from our stay there and have booked another weekend.Highly recommend!!

i stayed in the waterside hotel on the 27 of january.Myself and two other adults were given room 108 at the end of a corridoor beside the lift. The room was a bit small for three very clean but the bathroom was a bit dated. We had booked dinner in the dining room and ithe food was superb as was the service. We went back two our room after to relax and we did untill the music started and did not finish untill 12.45.Overall we had a lovely night and would go back for the food alone but i would not recomend room 108 when theres music on.

You wouldn't believe the views from this hotel. We were lucky enough to stay in the Bridal Suite, and though a bit on the cosier side, it did have a lovely bed and a spectacular view- not to mention a jacuzzi bath built for two! The hotel is very much a family run place- we checked in with the same person who served us dinner and also the same person that drove us to the train station. It was a nice, personal feeling and the banter was great. Dinner was delicious but the desserts disappointed. Highly recommend the fish as it's all sourced locally from the sea you look out at! The walks on the beach are to die for, and we were lucky with the weather so soaked in miles and miles of scenery. Was disappointed with the secret costings- late check out, supplements for some of the dinner dishes, etc, but overall it was a lovely break- and amazing as it's so close to Dublin but you couldn't feel further away! Well worth it!

I booked this hotel on Friday morning to stay on saturday night the website said that two rooms were available I got my confirmation email and was looking forward to staying here. On Friday afternoon I received a phone call from this hotel to say that their wedding coordinator needed the room that I had booked and there would be no vacancy for me. I explained that i had booked and had received confirmation and was told they know they are sorry but they needed the room. I would definately not recommened this hotel unless you want to be let down. I would give them no star rating but its not possible.
