Reviews for `BALLSBRIDGE HOTEL`

Food was great here and reception area was very inviting. Service was quite good too.The room itself was a bit dated but sufficient. Major issue was the noise carrying from the traffic right outside.

My second time to stay here, I really like this hotel. You can tell in its day it was a very grand hotel. Rooms are big warm and clean. Staff are LOVELY. Food is 'normal' food not fancy stuff which means we always enjoy our dinner and breakfast, and they dont mind that Im Gluten free and that menu needs altering for me to pick something I can eat. Only downside is its a huge hotel so unless you come very early expect to queue for breakfast, we arrived at 10am and waited 20-30mins to be seated. Its about 7euro taxi fare into Graftin street, although you could walk it in 20mins id say.

Five mature ladies stayed for overnight B&B on Sat 7th Dec 2013. Very impresssed with the hotel in particular the staff were very friendly and accomodating. Rooms were lovely and we had a lovely time having a few drinks in the bar. All would stay again.

Lovely stay. Pleasant staff and wonderful food. Room very clean but too close to elevator to get a good night's sleep. Drinks in bar quite expensive. Would stay there again.

...............stayed in D4 on Friday night, went up for the Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane show at the Aviva!! Just booked Fri morn with Lidl breaks, 49 euro for dinner b & b in Balsbridge on a Friday before a game seemed great! Stayed before, room was better previous time but was ok. Staff in restaurant were pleasant and served meal after game. Craic was good in bar and if one was a 'star' gazer then the bar provided it with Ray Houghton, Steve Staunton, Pat Dolan and a few RTE heads about and a bit of beauty with Andrea Roche! All that and an American rugby team wearing womens wigs!!! It WAS A GOOD NIGHT and the match went good as well!! Will defo be going again, thanks.

Maeve scored 2 / 5 on 18/11/2013

Shower in the room was very poor, if one had the hot tap on and turned the cold one on the water wouldn't mix and you'd either be roasted with the hot water of frozen with the cold! Room 207.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ballsbridge Hotel, we were attending a function in the RDS so it was ideal, and it is also very central for City Shopping with good transport links.I could not complain about anything, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the food was great, and the place was very welcoming. We had a beautiful meal in the Restaurant on one night of our stay, we will definitely stay there again.

Have yet to eat in the hotel so I cant comment on the food. so good, will be booking again with the hotel for one or two nights in Dublin over Christmas.

This hotel is very central to everything and easy to find. The hotel however has a new part An an old part, the old part is a bit dated, in Need of some paint, the door in the room wouldn't Close correctly and we were our on a corridor with a tour Bus of visitors who departed the hotel very early the following morning And had us awake. Food was very nice Staff friendly You do unfortunately have to pay for parking.

We stayed one night in the Ballsbridge Hotel and enjoyed our stay. The bedroom was roomy and very comfortable - the staff were very nice and the location was great as the bus stop was directly outside the hotel. We would stay again and recommend it to our friends.

I stayed in this hotel on 4th April. We were allocated room 444 which was the last room at the end of a long corridor. On entering the room, it looked fine, but when we used the bathroom, it was very dirty with a lot of hair strewn around it. We went down to the bar and ordered bar food. My husband had fish and chips and his portion was quite small and not much bigger than what the children got. We retired to bed around 11.00pm. The bed was grossly uncomfortable, and when we looked at it in the morning, we discovered that the mattress was sewn together, and the filling of the mattress was coming out. It was obviously a very very old mattress. We barely slept that night. The breakfast was very disappointing also. On checking out, I did mention these things to the receptionist, who told me I should have complained when I discovered these things, but my argument is I should not have been presented with a room like this in the first instance. The receptionist also told me that the reception manager would call me, but of course I have not heard anything. I would not recommend this hotel nor will I be returning here again. I had stayed numerous times before and was very happy, but this time I was very very disappointed.

Stayed in the family room, very spacious, Excellent value. Very convenient location, great selection at breakfast. Only downside is you have to pay for parking?

Kieran scored 4 / 5 on 01/03/2013

Room was far larger than expected and bed was very comfy. Breakfast had an excellent selection and the dinner was perfect. Only minor gripe was that the shower was of the "taps in the bath" variety, which meant occasional adjustment was required to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Ann scored 3 / 5 on 26/02/2013

Good location & value! We stayed overnight B&B with an evening meal. The room was clean and a bit old-fashioned in style. It was a bit chilly and the wallpaper was torn in one spot. The bed was comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly & the service was very good. The food in the restaurant was wholesome and tasty.

Peadar scored 4 / 5 on 25/02/2013

Excellent hotel, lovely staff. Great location. Great breakfast. Rooms are spacious and clean. Only little down point is that parking is charged extra and not mentioned when booking.

Elaine scored 1 / 5 on 22/01/2013

I was very disappointed with my stay in this hotel, although the rooms were clean and comfortable it was very cold. The staff were not very friendly (not one had a smile and they seemed to not want to be there) also we had dinner included in our package , when we arrived we booked dinner for 7pm in the restraint , the receptionist told us the restraunt opened at 5pm , when we arrived down for dinner the restraunt was closed and we were told to go to the bar but that we could have the restraint menu, however the staff in the bar refused this and told us we could only have the bar menu. Again the staff were not very friendly and the parking was very expensive. The breakfast was nice in the morning with lots of choice, the staff at breakfast were extremely annoying as they were trying to clear our table every 5 minutes.

Great location & great value! We stayed overnight B&B with an evening meal. The room was clean & comfortable. Staff were friendly & the bar was very good for a hotel. The food in the restaurant was wholesome and tasty. There was a Christmas Party night on so there was some noise but overall would totally recommend this hotel. Star Rating

Wonderful atmosphere in the hotel. Our room was satisfactory the decor in the bath room was a little tired. Location perfect for shopping in the Capitol and the Aviva. Breakfast was really tasty.

Mb scored 3 / 5 on 14/11/2012

Have stayed here quite a few times but not impressed with latest room. Remote control for tv didnt work, water barely trickled out of shower. Up side, the breakfast is always good and its a lovely hotel, maybe i just got a bad room this time. Wont stop me from staying here again though, and its really ideal for Aviva stadium and the Dart.

Conor scored 4 / 5 on 12/11/2012

Excellent location, just 10 minute bus ride to city center. From airport, Air Coach drops you outside the door. Ideal for any event at the Aviva Stadium or RDS as both less than 5 minutes walk. Rooms very clean, staff welcoming and helpful, great bar and food...superb value for money, highly recommended.

Speedy scored 3 / 5 on 07/11/2012

Staff were absolutely lovely but I felt so sorry for them having to work in such a poorly managed hotel. The night before the Dublin marathon our table of 4 was just one of several people dining in the hotel. The food was perfect but everyday seemed to be waiting a ridiculously long period of time to get their food. In fact they actually ran out of food as we had to change our order due to this reason! We were sitting near the cash register so we overheard several complaints regarding the wait. The phone and the hair dryer in my room were not working. On the plus side, very comfortable, spacious rooms, great breakfast, great location and couldn't complain in light of the fantastic value for a Dublin hotel.

Pablowe scored 3 / 5 on 05/11/2012

I would admit to not being familiar with the minutiae of hotel star ratings, but I do travel a bit and I would question the 4 star rating of this hotel...its a bit tired looking all around. On arrival we found that our 'family' room booking was a room with a single and double bed. When I questioned this I was given another room which turned out to be out of commission. On the third attempt, the room turned out to be two double beds (There are 4 of us in the family). It therefore took us 30 mins+ to get to a room which was not what we had reserved and no one wanted to come out and simply say " we don't have your room" I decided that life is too short and took what we were given. The breakfast buffet was good. The staff are very good. I met a number of friendly and helpful staff members who smiled despite being under pressure, particularly at breakfast time. The hotel is fine. I would actually stay there again but I would be aware that promises and reality can vary

John scored 5 / 5 on 05/11/2012

I stayed here with my wife and 2 children last week 1/11/12 and was pleasantly surprised with the 'new' Ballsbridge Hotel. The check in was speedy, friendly and efficient. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean/well maintained. The Bar area and staff were so friendly and accommodating and there was a genuine friendly welcome from the General Manager who took time to engage in conversation with my family. Breakfast was superb - maybe some larger teapots (just a suggestion!) and we were served by pleasant staff. There was a great atmosphere around the Hotel and we were offered excellent value for money. We will definitely be coming back to the Ballsbridge Hotel. Well Done everybody.

Dom scored 1 / 5 on 02/11/2012

Stayed here for one night with my wife and two children. Good location and close to the RDS and Aviva. On the face of it the hotel seems nice and most of the public areas are up to scratch. The family room was big and adequate, but tired looking and in need of a refresh. The net curtains were torn and the pull out sofa was so uncomfortable, we ended up with musical beds. There's plenty of room to have two doubles or 2 + 1 + 1 to call it a real family room. We decided to try the bar for lunch on the Saturday and were seated and handed menus pretty quickly in the almost empty bar. We asked for children menus and were told they weren't sure if they had a children's menu after several minutes of the staff not knowing what to do we decided to walk up the road to a local cafe. This also meant we ruled out the hotel as an evening meal option. Leaving the car park later the automatic barrier closed on the roof of my car, luckily I have roof rails. On returning I let reception know, but felt my feedback went unheaded. Breakfast was good the next morning and plenty of variety. Has potential, but needs to try harder on the basics.

Norma scored 3 / 5 on 01/11/2012

Very happy with my stay the room was very spacious and nice and warm, checkin staff very nice to deal with, i booked a family room the beds were very comfortable and the room was also clean, Bad points could do with more towels and the fried breakfast was a bit on the dry side. Good points on breakfast theres plenty of other choices for breakfast so don't be afraid to book this hotel. I will be booking this hotel again in the future i have to say.

bar is fab rooms are huge bathrooms in rooms could do with being cleaned more throughly. check in process seemed to take ages. no room service availible. arrived to hotel at 10pm starving- had to get taxi to local chipper. was told vending machines availible. also have to pay for parking - would think this should be free when staying over night- not in hurry back- staff were ok but not overly friendly

Gerry scored 4 / 5 on 02/08/2012

Stayed 2 nights, hotel room was clean and the staff were very helpful and courteous. No fault with the breakfast. The only downfall was you had to pay ten euro per night for parking, I think that is ok for one night but when you stay for more than one night it should reduce to five euro a night from the second night and maybe no charge for third night etc, something the hotel should look at to get more bookings. hotel is in a great location as there was taxis outside the and the bus routh to city center just across the road. I will stay ther again and have no problem Recommending this hotel

Mairead scored 3 / 5 on 17/07/2012

Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Room was nice and clean with tea and coffee making facilities. Plenty hot water and 2 hairdryers! Only fault was that I needed to get taxi's everywhere...... which cost an extra 60 euro over the weekend. Reception staff did book taxis as needed for you, which was very helpful. Would stay there again in the future. Even though check in time stted 3pm, staff facilitated early check in too.

Kk scored 3 / 5 on 16/07/2012

Locaton was excellent, plenty of taxi available, bus stop across the road. Room was basic & clean. WiFi was € 7.50 if required, thought this was expensive as the majority other hotels give it free. Breakfast was excellent, great choice & variety. Bar food menu was very basic and expensive and the price of alcohol was also expensive. In general we had a lovely stay.

Ursula scored 4 / 5 on 22/06/2012

I stayed in one of the BallsbridgeTowers Rooms and it was perfect, large and spacious, very comfortable and very well decorated. There wasn't a sound from any of the other rooms so I slept soundly and enjoyed a hearty breakfast the following morning. The staff were very helpful and chatty, the atmosphere throughout the hotel was relaxed. It was very busy that week-end but you never felt you were being rushed. I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends and the price for B&B was very good value, a nice change in this present financial climate in Ireland.

Ian1 scored 3 / 5 on 17/06/2012

I stayed at this hotel twice in the last two weeks - the first week I stayed for two nights and for one night last week. I found the Hotel and staff to be very good. I had bar food on two occasions and it was very nice and represented good value for money. The rooms were very clean but the decor is a bit dated. Breakfast during my stay for the first week was excellent - all self service and the food was kept hot and the staff were very attentive in looking after it. This was in marked contrast to my stay last week when the quality of the breakfast was not nearly as good. The restuarant was very busy and it appeared that there were not enough staff on duty to cope with the numbers. The result was that the food was not nearly as good as it was the previous week which was a great pity as I was looking forward to it being as good as it was the week before. Overall, the Hotel was very good value despite the quality of the breakfast during my second stay!!!!!

We have recently stayed at the Ballsbridge Hotel ( 2 seperate occasions) and really enjoyed our stay on both occasions. The hotel accomodation is of a very high standard of cleanliness and service and we found the staff to be both friendly and efficiient. The hotel is located close to the city centre and venues such as the Aviva stadium and the RDS makes it ideal for anyone who wishes to explore the city on foot. The cost per stay is of very good value for those on a tight budget, which is of added importance in these recessionary times. All in all, a very good experinece and one we intend to repeat in the future. Martin & Helen O'Dowd

M scored 2 / 5 on 15/05/2012

For value and price the hotel is a 4 star........staff plesant and helpful Manager was a total gentlenan The rooms are clean but tired but everthing was in working order Where the hotel falls down is its breakfast.....the fries[sausages , black and white puddings] were of terrible quality There was a concoction of potatoe and onions which was un-eatable ..tasted foul and the potatoes must have been left overs from the previous nights dinner serving ,,,probably the most disgusting breakfast i ever ate in a hotel On that therefore a low 2 star rating[just] i give it ....pity as the staff managenent we so professional

Joe scored 3 / 5 on 02/05/2012

I liked the area the hotel was in and also the foyer, breakfast area and also the staff. The food we ate there was of a high standard. I was a bit disappointed by the room we got as I had thought it would be of a more modern style and was a bit tired and old fashioned looking. Some of the wallpaper was hanging off the wall and the curtain did not close fully. The bathroom required a facelift and the ventilator did not work. The Wifi did not work nor did the text on the TV. However it was clean in the bedroom and in the hotel generally. When I was paying the hotel bill at reception on the day of our departure, the receptionist seemed to be unaware of the deposit I had initially paid through Lidlbreaks, even though I had left in a printout of our payment details on our arrival at the hotel.

Shaney scored 4 / 5 on 01/05/2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Ballsbridge Hotel, it was really convenient to the Aviva. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. It was really busy and they were still able to cope. Even at breakfast everything ran smoothly. Overall a very good experience.

J.l. scored 2 / 5 on 27/04/2012

The bedroom was fine but our stay was spoiled by being told on arrival in the breakfast room that our booking did not include breakfast. The receptionist had taken the confirmation sheet I had with me at checkin so I had no proof to hand and the member of staff was very unhelpful. My advice to anyone is to have extra copies of your documentation!! Not a pleasant experience.!

Jodie scored 1 / 5 on 26/04/2012

Must say we were disappointed with our stay at the Ballsbridge Hotel last weekend. It was our 5th Wedding Anniversary, which I made note of on our booking before hand. It would have been nice to at least acknowledge it. On arrival the receptionist barely looked at us, swiped our credit card and gave us our room number. Had to ask her to give us some information on Breakfast times, Dinner times. Asked her is there information pack in the room and she replied "I don't know, there might be." When we got to our room we had no hot water until 1pm the next day. We had to go to another room at the other end of the hotel for a shower. Dinner wasn't nice. All in All we felt totally unappreciated for our business and customer care was non-existent. We have a small family and we're due another baby next month so we were so looking forward to this trip away (which doesn't happen too often). Unfortunately we wouldn't recommend this hotel at all.

Anita scored 2 / 5 on 03/01/2012

On arriving to the Ballsbridge Hotel, we made our way towards the reception desk for check-in, where we met a very unfriendly receptionist. We were asked for full payment before receiving our keys, which I thought was strange. However I paid it as I was too tired to argue. While keying in my pin code in the laser card machine, I realised that the total amount was including the 60euro deposit that I had previously paid to Lidl-breaks. I questioned the receptionist and he told me that that 60euro was commission paid to Lidl-breaks. I told him that was wrong and showed him our confirmation e-mail. He then contacted Lidl-breaks who confirmed that a 60 euro deposit was paid. He came back to me and said that I was correct, but no apology. He told me that it was a mistake of Lidl-breaks and not the hotel. As I had booked 3 rooms for two nights I was very shocked to be treated in this manner. However the hotel was lovely, and all other staff very friendly.
