Perfectly situated Hotel just a 2 minute walk from train station, 5 minutes drive to motorway and 5 mins walk to all shops. Really nice bar food and huge breakfast selection. Terrific gym and pool facilities, will definitely be back.

Brenda scored 5 / 5 on 05/06/2024

We had a lovely short break and as we had recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary there was a nice surprise left in our room compliments of the hotel. This was much appreciated. We have stayed a few times here and always enjoy our stay. Nice clean hotel with great staff and a beautiful leisure centre. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Lamara scored 5 / 5 on 24/05/2024

Excellent hotel, perfectly situated 3 minutes walk from the train station and 5 minutes walk to laois shopping centre. Lovely Bar food and terrific breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Naomi scored 4 / 5 on 05/03/2024

This is a fabulous looking hotel, lovely staff and the breakfast is one of the best. However the last two times I have stayed here we have been asked to leave the bar (6pm) to facilitate dinner bookings and sit in the lobby. On this most recent occasion the lobby was full and with nowhere to sit we ended up in a seating area out side our rooms beside the lifts! I would not come here again as our family like to sit in a bar with a bit of atmosphere on a night away. Very disappointed that this hotels bar, in my experience, is not available to guests in the evenings who wish to have a pre dinner drink.

Edel scored 3 / 5 on 19/02/2024

The hotel is a lovely hotel, the staff are pleasant & friendly. The only downside is the bar, we went in at 530 to have a drink but all the tables were all reserved so we had to sit out in the lobby, you can reserve a table for food but if you want a drink there’s no really place to sit other than the lobby. Even though the hotel was busy there was no entertainment or any kind of music, it was very quiet , no atmosphere. The breakfast was lovely and very quick services.

Ruth scored 5 / 5 on 10/01/2024

Could not fault the hotel. I travelled with family for my mams 80th birthday. There was about 50 of us give or take 1 or 2. They could not do enough for us from arranging us all for the birthday breakfast to letting us have the restaurant for the birthday dinner. They went above & beyond to make sure we had a great weekend. I really appreciated all they did.

Mairead scored 5 / 5 on 09/01/2024

This is one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in. From my experience of booking my accommodation, which I changed a few times & was told "it's no problem". The bedrooms very comfortable. I wouldn't be excited about the grey walls but that's just me. The staff in the Bar & restaurant were 500%. Fabulous personalities, extremely efficient, they went above & beyond what they needed to do. The food was EXCELLENT both for dinner & bfst....staff in Reception were equally efficient & pleasant. I didn't get to the leisure centre. Location in town is perfect. I would have NO PROBLEM recommending this hotel.

Break in Midland Park Hotel This is a lovely hotel with well kept grounds and the areas in the hotel. I was given a room on the second floor. The room was nice and big and spacious, with a fine big bathroom very clean. The bed was very comfortable and I had a good nights sleep. The hotel has a leisure centre and beauty section but I did not visit. The breakfast presented was a good choice of either continental style or the full Irish. The girls in the breakfast bar were great and very helpful, when I asked for things. I hope to visit the Midland hotel for a break next year.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely decor throughout the hotel. Swimming area and changing rooms were clean and tidy only small negative sauna was out of order. Gym is well equipped and all u could need. I wld say to provide dressing gowns and slippers in rooms and a fridge and its well on its way to a 5 wldnt have to do much more than that. All staff were really friendly and the breakfast was delicious and kids got pancakes which went down a treat. Arrived early to have lunch before checking in and was told the room was ready and the best bit was we were upgraded to a suite. Swimming pool was great and lots of floats for the kids. Really relaxing break and near to shops also so we didn't need to use the car. Thanks again bargain breaks.

Two night stay over the bank holiday weekend. Hotel has been completely revamped since we last stayed there. Good big rooms and very good food. Particularly liked the cooked to order breakfast menu as opposed to a hot buffet. Buffet still available for cold options. Highly recommended.

Thomas scored 5 / 5 on 09/08/2017

This hotel got a recent revamp and what a smashing job they did. I love the grey theme and the dark corridors very boutique-esque. The rooms were very spacious, the pool was and changing rooms were exceptionally clean. Kellys steakhouse restaurant had one of the best steaks I have ever tasted. Breakfast was run very smoothly with a top quality irish breakfast. My kids had a fab time in the kids clu and wanted to return every evening (credit to the girls running it) But what impressed me the most about my stay here was the staff. They are really friendly and you get the sense that they genuinely like working in the hotel as each staff member I encountered had a beaming smile all day long. 5 stars from me.

Lovely hotel, lovely food. Staff are so helpful. Only thing I would have a problem with is the swimming pool dressing rooms. Very run down. No real privacy.

Daniel scored 4 / 5 on 09/05/2017

Arrived at the hotel on Friday, 5th May, around 6pm. Got checked in very fast, and the girl was very efficient and friendly. Went to our room which was good size, with a single bed, plus double bed. The room was spotless, and very well presented. Had a meal in the town, and retired to the hotel bar, for a night cap. The bar staff were very friendly. There as live music, one guy singing ballads which was really good, and very entertaining. Next morning we had a lovely breakfast. The cereals, and orange juice as well as yogurts, were self service. You could order a full Irish breakfast from the menu, with different options, and this would be served fresh. This was a nice touch as most hotel have a breakfast buffet service. The only negative is the car parking. The hotel does not have a car park, and for a one night stay, you can stay in a private car park, adjacent to the hotel. The hotel will give you a voucher next morning. Your stay in the car park is free from 6pm the prev night til 10 am next morning. After 10 am, you will be charged €1.50 per hour, or €5.00 per day.

Katherineb scored 3 / 5 on 02/05/2017

Beautifully décor bedrooms - very 4*. However, dining experience left a bit to be desired. Portions small and very average. Service bit sloppy, and perhaps staff too over-familiar/casual for 4 star. Good location and we got a very good deal.

Lovely break, food lovely in restaurant, great value for money

Bernard scored 4 / 5 on 28/04/2017

Very enjoyable stay. Bedroom well-proportioned and comfortable. Leisure facilities excellent. If there was one area that one could criticize, it is the Breakfast management. On each morning it was a bit hectic, as it was school mid-term break. Irrespective of that fact, there is a problem with breakfast management, after one has had their cereal the next breakfast courses are waiter service. The management of this portion of the breakfast was not the best, waiting for food and on one morning having to ask for our order and having to re-order. It would be better if the breakfast was serve yourself. Dinner was the exact opposite, very attentive staff and excellent food.

Portlaoise Heritage Hotel is well located in the middle of the town so you can simply park your car and go browse....The hotel as always is warm and welcoming and although they are in the middle of major renovations it did not affect the stay. Kelly's Steakhouse is definitely worth a visit after reopening recently with a new look!! Menu (although seems expensive) is so worth it, the food was served quickly by friendly and attentive staff and portions were huge. Breakfast is buffet style with plenty to chose from. As per usual, we would recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again soon.

Martin scored 3 / 5 on 01/09/2016

Hotel staff were very nice and helpful. Rooms were nice and comfortable, if a little too hot at night - could do with air conditioning. We booked a package that included an evening meal and the reception staff advised that we dine at the nearby Kelly's Steakhouse (owned by the Hotel) but I was very surprised, nay disappointed, that even the cheapest steak (in a steakhouse) had a €5 supplement attached to it! - I didn't want a steak anyway, but it smelt of rip-off!!! Both my wife and I enjoyed what we ordered but the aforementioned left an aftertaste (excuse the pun).

Excellent reception staff, first put into very noisy room at side of hotel but moved to quieter room on request. Had dinner first night in restaurant excellent food great value, had dinner in bar second night very disappointing burger and chips absolutely no flavour to burger and very small portion of overcooked chips. Overall staff very friendly and efficient, bar food very disappointing, leisure centre very good.

We booked a mid week Lidl break for two nights in August and chose the Heritage as I had previously visited the hotel for a conference and knew it was a nice hotel. Visited with my partner and two children. We had a lovely stay and I would highly recommend it for a family break . The room was very spacious with a king size and two single beds. The pool is fabulous and well equipped. We ate in Spagos, one of the in-house restaurants and got a good rate on the meal. Breakfast was good and parking was free, although I think on a room only rate you have to pay for parking. Wifi was free and fast and on the whole we were very happy with our visit. There is a kids club but my too too old to attend, but there were loads of families here. Would recommend as a good value family break.

Excellent staff, breakfast was so good, I am a vegetarian so I asked for scrambled eff and was no problem. No vegetarian option in bar and I reviewed on Facebook page and staff came back and said they would bring it up with chef. Rooms have been updated and can't fault them. Second visit and will go back, also used spa, brilliant staff and service, will review on trip advisor

Food was nice, The newly renovated rooms are very nice which 1 of the families was moved to. Had a nice stay.

I stayed here with my husband and a group of friends for a 40th birthday celebration. We were impressed with the quality of the hotel and the accommodation, which I hear they are planning to refurbish soon. The check-in desk was well manned and the staff could not be more accommodating. They helped us book a restaurant for dinner, stored out birthday cake for us and took a few group photos. I liked the cosy decor of the bedroom. The bathroom looked a bit dated but everything was clean, comfortable and fit for purpose. We didn't eat dinner there but the breakfast was well organised, flowed smoothly and the breakfast food was delicious. There is a pool and a Spa there but I didn't get to use them. There used to be a large bar there when I had stayed here years ago but its closed now. The space in the residents bar is a bit limited but there was entertainment on and it had a great family atmosphere. The hotel is easy walking distance to the main street. There is a parking garage next door and we received a voucher toward the cost so it cost us very little. I'll definitely come back with my kids next time and avail of the pool and nearby family attractions.

Stayed on a family, two night, three day break. On the positive we had a great spacious room with 5 beds, clean and tidy. Ate in the bar the first night, the food was good an the staff were helpful, polite and friendly. Accommodation staff were also very good and made a great job of cleaning the room. Pool was very good with a kids pool, fountain, bubbles, etc so plenty to keep them occupied. Sauna steam room, 2 x Jacuzzis so well equipped for adults too. The staff in the leisure centre were friendly and helpful as well. On the other side of things the girl in reception was unpleasant upon arrival and there was a mix up between the hotel and bookings@hotelonline.ie/Lidl breaks. Also, like in a previous comment, we had music blaring from one of the function rooms until very late on both nights, kept us all awake.

Elaine scored 3 / 5 on 23/02/2016

hotel was comfortable, swimming pool and changing room spacious but grubby and in need of refurbishment. Breakfast was good but we were kept awake by ear deafening music from midnight to 2am from a local nightclub in the town, definitely not a good nights sleep, would not return until noise is sorted with the nearby nightclub, pity as was very happy with the hotel overall

Lovely hotel staff are great but rooms are very dated inside and need a good refurbishment. Also the music from downstairs was thumping into our room from 11.30 to 3am and there was no warning of this on the website but I tink people should be aware of it.

Caroline scored 3 / 5 on 09/02/2016

Staff kindly sent up some fresh baked cookies as it was our anniversary. Restaurant food was nice but the menu was the same both nights. Unfortunately there was a brawl in the hotel on one of the nights, and we were locked out. A sign outside indicated that entry should be through another door, but this was locked and we could not gain access and were left out in the cold for a while. When the night porter eventually let us in he was apologetic but it seemed to me that the hotel was understaffed to deal with situations like this.

The Hotel was nice and staff were friendly. They may have sky sports in the bar, but not BT Sports 1 and 2, so we had to leave the hotel to watch a football match. Parking charges were a bit steep, and the bar area was dark and very small. The food in the restaurant was lovely, and so was the breakfast.

We stayed in the heritage on Saturday 14th November. Our package included bed breakfast and a 2 course dinner which I had booked on the previous Wednesday. When I booked the dinner I was told someone from the restraunt would call me back to confirm but it was booked. No one rang me back but to be honest I forgot about it then. When we checked in I asked to confirm our dinner reservations which it turned out had not been booked. We asked to speak to the duty manager who basically said it was my fault dinner wasn't booked as he wasn't there when it was booked he did say he would accommodate us for dinner in the bar with a €20pp credit as they couldn't accommodate the package. When we went for dinner that evening a table had been reserved away from the bar in a coffee area and were declined when we asked for the restaurant menu instead. Two courses later the duck spring rolls were incinerated and couldn't be eaten and not one person in our party had anything good to say about the mains. What we ate didn't come to €120 although no one ever bothered dropping us a bill and the next morning on checkout our bill was incorrect leaving us to add up our bill ourselves. Another 15 mins waiting on the duty manager who again blamed all his staff for anything we had a grievance with and we left. The hotel is lovely and the rooms were spacious and clean, all staff we met were exceptional except for the duty manager aAidan Moore who has zero customer service skills. I feel sorry for his staff if he is never willing to take any responsibility for anything and blames them for mistakes he has made. As duty manager in a hotel ultimately the responsibility falls with him. Our issues with the dinner reservation could have been easily rectified but Aidan instead made it stressful and turned it in to an argument. Based on the experience I wouldn't go back to hotel or recommend it.

Hotel staff were helpful and friendly and especially Stacey on Reception and Hugh at Breakfast! Nice little hotel. Wouldn't rate it as a 4 star hotel though.. We go there regularly with the babies and kiddies. Great for them, swimming pool, movie room, small play room. One thing though, we were sleeping peacefully at 1am Saturday morning and the noisiest alarm goes off for around 5 seconds. Thankfully my 13 month old didn't actually wake up! But me and my mam were awake for ages after.. Not sure if it was a smoke alarm or what..

We stayed in the hotel last weekend for a well deserved break and enjoyed the whole stay from the service we received in reception to the bar and restaurant staff who were all very friendly and helpful. Used the fantastic gym too and we attended a conference on the Sunday and all the facilities were 100%. Our rooms were very clean and tidy equipped with all the towels and soaps. The only down side was the attached pub was not open which we missed and there seem to be only standing room in the hotel bar especially on the Saturday night. Otherwise a hotel I would return to as a date night with my other half...

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent short stay in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise. The hotel and room accommodation was of a very good standard as were the pool and leisure facilities We had a lovely meal in the hotel's Italian style restaurant, Spago's where the restaurant staff were very pleasant and friendly and extremely accommodating with meal options for our picky young children. The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Portlaoise town which makes it very accessible if you want to to explore the local amenities. The downside to this is the limited parking facilities and hotel guests must pay for some of their parking fees in the adjacent privately owned multi story carpark. Overall we would highly recommend this hotel and its pleasant staff and our family break represented excellent value for money. Colgan Family, Dublin.

Very centrally located with a lovely lobby area. Large sized rooms with comfortable beds. On a slightly negative side, a banging entrance door to the corridor interfered with a good night's sleep and the electronic room keys stopped working as did the parking ticket but I think it may have something to do with staying longer than one night at the hotel.

We checked in as a group of women for a night away. We had to reduce our booking from 3 rooms to 2 rooms the day before arrival, and the hotel were fantastic about accommodating this change at short notice. We found the staff to be very friendly. There was a guest with a guitar singing in the residents lounge on our return from town, and he added great atmosphere and there were no complaints from staff. The breakfast was tasty, but the breakfast area could do with more regular attention (i.e. moping up spills, tidying up crumbs, re-stocking bread / fruit etc). The room was spotless and very comfortable. Unfortunately our shower didn't work but it wasn't a major issue. We dined in the Italian Restaurant attached to the hotel. The food was delicious, the service quick and the staff friendly. Great value too. On the downside the service at the bar was very, very slow, to the point that we left after waiting for around 15/20 mins with no service to go to a bar in the town. The issue wasn't that the bar was incredibly busy, but that there appeared to be no bar staff! Unfortunately the parking can work out pretty expensive also which is a pity. It should be free if you are a guest in the hotel. Despite the few cons above, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel and will definitely will return in the future.

Upon arrival the the hotel we were greeted by very friendly receptionist staff. We went through the check in procedure and got to our room. My first impression was that the room was nicely decorated and clean, however because i have a foot injury i pushed the bed back from the couch to make room and i was shocked to find under the bed very dirty. Not only had it not been hoovered for a while but i also found some cardboard from jewellery packaging, a drill bit and 3 hair clips. We booked our evening meal for 8.30pm , we arrived in time to the resturaunt , they were very busy and we waited quite some time to be served once we were seared. The food we received was very tasty. The staff were more than helpful and in particular the very friendly porter who made sure i was more than comfortable because of my injury.

3rd February 2015 review by Lorraine This is my second time to stay in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel. It is a nice hotel to stay in and very family friendly. Check in was swift. The rooms are big, spotless and comfortable. The staff were very friendly, the food was very good and plentiful. The only downside to the stay was the expensive parking.

Cant say enough about this hotel. we booked it for my elderly parents and we asked for early check in and it was no problem. we also got a ground floor room as stairs are a problem for them. The rooms were spotless and comfortable. The staff were so friendly. The food was fantastic and the pool and sauna was perfect. My parents really had a lovely time. looking forward to going again

Everything was lovely and great until we met a very rude and aggressive night porter, of course as we had a few drinks on us he managed to turn the situation on us stating we are the ones that had alcahol on us so who was going to beleive us. I arraged for my family and ten other family memebers to stay so we filled quite a few rooms and we had a great day meal and night with the one man band but the night poter ruined it all...........I would love to give a good rating as everything else was really nice and pleasant but one rude and arrongant staff memebr is all it takes to ruin your weekend.

I stayed here for a wedding where I was being bridesmaid, I rang the hotel earlier in the week and asked if I could check in earlier which they agreed. I arrived in the hotel at 11.30 and my room wasn't ready! I needed to be in my room an be up with the bride at 12 for hair and makeup so they said I couldn't have my allocated room but they could put me in a twin room with 2 single beds instead of the double in which I booked being in a hurry I took the room which to be honest wasn't that great it was very basic and seemed a bit dated! the kettle dint work and the heating wasn't great either. I ordered room service on the 2 mornings and again I was disappointed the scramble eggs were awful and bacon very fatty and a bit cold. I can say that the staff were very nice friendly and the rest of the food was gorgeous.

Moi scored 2 / 5 on 24/10/2014

Hotel looks well from outside and check in was quick. Room was OK but not a 4 star. Everything was a bit worn and dated. Would like to say that at least it was clean but the following morning I found our 1 year old with a peanut in her hand as she crawled on the floor(in a family room). When we moved the bed some more there were a number of peanuts all over the floor. We hadn't eaten them so they were obviously there a while. So not only was the room obviously not cleaned properly it was also dangerous(choking hazard). We were at a family function which is why we were there in the first place(extremely slow service at function) but we wouldn't return.

Stayed on a 1 night DBB package, hotel is really central right in centre of town. Car park is adjacent to hotel and its free between 18.00 hrs and 10.00 hrs nx day.Dinner was in the hotels italian restaurant with the choice only ok( €5 supp for steak). Had a good hearty breakfast next morning before a 12.00 check out. Didnt make use of the lesiure facilities. Rooms were ok with decor a little dated.Overall we enjoyed our stay here and was great value with the package.

We had a lovely time, the staff were most accommodating. We had a bedroom beside the lift as my Mam has walking difficulties. We also were able to use the handicapped parking just outside the front door . My daughter aged 8 so enjoyed the kids club held every day from 5 to 10. Katie and Eimear were amazing with the kids. The breakfast was great every morning and a special word of thanks to Elaine at reception for being so helpful. The hotel has an excellent swimming pool which is kept to a high standard. We enjoyed our stay in the Heritage hotel and we would recommend it for a nice family break.

Michael scored 4 / 5 on 17/06/2014

We stayed one night in the Heritage for our anniversary. The Hotel, on hearing this, upgraded our room to a slightly larger one, which we were delighted with. There are some basic features missing, such are air conditioning, mini bar and a room safe, but this did not take from our stay. On the plus side the WiFi is free. There is a large pool with Jacuzzi and sauna and a large gym if you choose to burn off the calories. We ate in the Italian restaurant which is attached to the hotel. The food was absolutely excellent and good value. The restaurant staff were very happy and attentive and I would definitely eat there again. The next morning we ate breakfast in the hotel which was part of our package. We were greeted by a very cheerful man who made us feel welcome straight away. The breakfast is self service and there was plenty of food to choose from. Perfect!! Overall we were very happy with our stay in the Heritage Hotel and would certainly recommend a visit. The Hotel is centrally located to the train, bus and is minutes away from shops, pubs and restaurants.

Pool area was a bit dark but the two jacuzzis were hot. Enjoyed our stay. Will return again. The only negative thing was that on your website it states that there was music in Molly's Bar on friday nights, but on the night Molly's bar was closed. Ann L. Kildare.

Located right in Portlaoise, the hotel was very much as expected. Rooms spacious and clean, staff very friendly, the leisure facilities well maintained. Only negatives were that although the breakfast had all the usual bacon, egg, sausage etc buffet fayre - it was all a bit dried up by 9am also the seating area in hotel bar limited if wanting to watch the footie - but overall a good hotel which we felt was well worth the Group scheme Rate paid.

Pleasantly surprised after reading some of the reviews. The Location is perfect for a weekend break as the Hotel is in walking distance to the town. The staff at reception were pleasant and efficient. The breakfast was great with a full range of foods available for all tastes. We dined at Kellys Foundry ( although outside of the Hotel) the food was excellent. I have to mention the staff in the Restaurant specifically Colleen who even though the Restaurant was full and she was run off her feet she still managed to make us feel as if we were the only people there. ( A rare quality in this day and age) Rooms adequate clean and beds were comfortable. The only negative we had was being unable to get seats in the Bar. Will return again

We had an enjoyable stay in the Heritage. The dinner and breakfast were of a very high standard and we were very impressed. The only fault we had with the hotel was the lack of staff. The hotel was very busy with a conference on and there was only person at the reception desk for check in and again for check out. Everybody had to check out at the same time and the poor girl behind the reception desk was under alot of pressure. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay!

My wife and I stayed over the October Bank Holiday weekend and staff were great. Hotel is centrally located for night life but rooms are getting a little outdated and car parking system not ideal or cheap...... but then the central location is possibly the cause for this. Found the pool area to be sufficent ,but dark tiles in the pool and dark wooden ceiling made it feel cold. Breakfast was excellent and staff managed the weekend rush with professionalism. Would like to think we would return but would love to see the old place getting an injection of capital to revamp itself to its previous days.

Sandra scored 3 / 5 on 29/10/2013

Staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Room was cold until I rang to get the heating turned on and was disappointed in the breakfast, I didn't feel it was up to 4 star standard. Limited free parking was poor as staying in the car park past 10am to go shopping in the town proved very expensive. Room was spotless and dinner in Spagos was very tasty.

We had 2 great days in THe Portlaoise HEritage Hotel recently, the service was brilliant, and the breakfast really amazing for the money we spent. It was buffet style so we had as much or as little as we wanted. The selection was great with every cereal that's on the market, juices etc. the hot breakfast Was equally good, with a good range of bacon, sausages eggs, you name it they had it. The rooms were nice and clean, plenty of warm towels, and we needed Them as we visited the lovely indoor pool a few times. We had our two grandchildren with us and they had a ball. we had a family gathering at the portlaoise Heritage Hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, The pool is really clean, the rooms were comfortable, although there was a large wedding so there was a little noise in the street front rooms. We had an excellent meal at Spago's restaurant & were very well looked after by Dougie. The only issues i had were, we had a problem with trying to book our group through the lidl website i needed 9 rooms, it took several phonecalls & emails to sort it out, this should have been avoided, I was close to cancelling the whole booking! also the parking tickets which were validated by the hotel for the carpark next door, caused alot of problems in that they would not let us out on departure, a little frustrating to have to return back to reception. Apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

The guy working the pool reception was great with the kids and we did enjoy our stay, but didn't quite feel as safe after that experience. Hopefully it was just a one off and they are tighter with security.

Hi, Stayed at the Hertiage Portlaoise for one night on Saturday 6th April, 2013. I found the receptionist very friendly and check in was very efficient. Bar and Reception area all looked very well and up to date. Unfortunately, I was quiet disappointed when i arrived at Room 209, it was quiet a big room but had very tired looking furniture and everything looked quiet dated, Bathroom was quiet quaint and dull and could badly do with a change.. Lamp at the side of bed didnt work either( not sure if bulb need replacing or if it was electrical fault). Overall Hotel looks a four star but Rooms certainly did not. We did dine in the Hotels restaurant accross the road Kellys which was very nice and lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was buffet and plenty of everything. Hope this helps.

On the first night we were above the bar and on the same side as the trains so we requested a move for the second night which was granted. Food is lovely in both restaurants but I felt the set menu for the kids at €12.50 was a bit steep. Most kids (except for the older ones) wouldn't eat three courses anyway! We really enjoyed our stay and didn't want to come home!

Just back from a lovely stay in the Heritage hotel. As a family, we have gone on a few of these breaks and this was definitely one of the better ones. The room was a good size and the facilities and food were very good. We ate in the Italian which everyone enjoyed. I would suggest however that anyone considering going books their meal in either restaurant in advance. We waited until we checked in (at 3pm which is the earliest) but almost didn't get a table - the receptionist was bemused that we didn't book it in advance but we didn't know! Breakfast was good with many items available on request that weren't in the buffet. The staff were friendly - we requested a duvet for the "camp bed" as it only had a blanket and sheet on it and this was supplied. All in all a good break and very good value.

We enjoyed our stay at ur hotel. I found the lounge area far to small a joke to be honest to have so many people crowded into one corner that held about eight tables not good enough and gave up on ordering food petty but not very comfortable with two children. I also found an unpleasant smell in the breakfast area which was very off putting (dampness ?). The staff where lovely, helpful and very friendly.

If the hotel stays the same I wouldn’t be returning. In my opinion it should not have a 4 Star rating. Let me say for a 10 year old hotel it looks very tired and I would not put it at a 4 star hotel. Main points against it. 1 Rooms overlook a Railway line and yes you can hear the trains. 2 Rooms cold and somewhat dirty. 3 Having to go outside and across the road on a cold wet night to the restaurant to have a meal included in you package, unacceptable. I booked two rooms for two nights 4 people, we had requested quiet rooms but our room overlooked the rail line. Our room itself was ok and clean but I found the hairs in the bathroom. I didn’t point this out to anyone but the hairs were still there, after the room had been cleaned following our first night. The room was cold most of the time too even though we did request the heating be put on. I found the bar area was far too small for a hotel of its size even using the reception seating area there were a lot of people struggling to find seating. I understand there is another bar but it was closed. We were on a package including dinner and I find it ridicules that people are expected to have to go outside on a cold raining night, to go to a restaurant across the road to have dinner. I phoned three days earlier I booked the restaurant but when we got there they had no booking. We had to wait for a table, yet people (non residents) that came in after us got one straight away. I would like to compliment the hotel on the quality of the food. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in the various areas of the hotel, was very good. Also apart from one receptionist who was rude, the staff were very professional and friendly. If it had been a good quality 4 star hotel, the price I paid would have been reasonable but for what I got I will not be returning as there is a lot better available for that price.

We spent the night in The Heritage following a show hosted ther,e While the food was lovely, we were very dissappointed that our room was not available upon arrival or for quite some time after. Also when the place was so busy with the show you would think that they would have more bar staff on. Alot of people went out to the front bar for drinks and there was two people there of which only one was capable of serving at any sort of speed. The room was lovely, food lovely but for a 4star hotel not up to scratch. Anna - Kildare

I only stayed in this hotel for one night with my mother and sister, we all thought that the hotel itself was very nice but found the staffs manners a bit lacking. Our room was adequate but as a trio of nonsmokers we found that we had been put in a smoking room on a smoking floor which meant that as soon as you stepped out of the lift you were greated with a horrible musty smell which unfortunately was present in our room as well. The food in the both the coffee shop and Italian restaurant, both located on site, was lovely, we all really enjoyed it , however the staff in the Coffee Bean were extremely rude as they left us waiting ages at the register waiting to pay while they kept walking past us totally ignoring us and then when we complained and asked to be served we were told how understaffed they were but never offered an apology and then watched as the staff member gave out about us to her colleague still while we were standing there. There is a multi stori car park located right nextdoor which is very convenient as you dont need to worry about parking or traveling far with bags, unfortunately the cost is not subsidized enough by the hotel and we still had to pay €10 for one nights parking which I find a bit much as when you enter you are told it is discounted by the hotel. I would recommend this hotel if it was just for an over night stay, however if it was for any longer I dont think I would as I felt the staff barely wanted to be there. Based only on how much we enjoyed the food and on the central location in the town I would give this hotel 3 stars.

We stayed in the hotel for one night. Hotel service was good but the food was not of 4 star quality. We ate in the steakhouse as opposed to the Italian restaurant. Also, no healthy options for brekkie eg fruit not fresh and in syrup and no healthy cereals only those full of sugar. Ps salmon was good but not remainder of meal.

Was on the whole disappointed with the Hotel. facilities cleanliness and staff were as you would expect in a Hotel of its status and cost- Very good. however,: the rooms were cold and one had to request heat from reception/ (not convenient when you wake up freezing at 2.10 am!! ) breakfast was only reasonable with buffet Irish , cereal and fruit, would have expected something special for the hotel standard! On the plus however was the advantage of free/ complementary parking, For this you must ask at reception.

Myself and five other family members stayed here yesterday on an overnight package, bed, breakfast & dinner included. The hotel's first appearance was lovely. However we were greeted by a very unpleasant grumpy receptionist. The bedrooms were extremely basic certainly not a four star standard as advertised. When we questioned the receptionist as to how the hotel has four stars she told me she didn't know, maybe it was to do with the leisure facilities and the restaurants.I thought this was very unprofessional. Anyway we went to the leisure area, which was also disappointing. This was not the usual that you would find in a four star hotel. The food in the Italian restaurant was really tasty and our waiter was very entertaining. The bar had a two man duo of live Irish music. This was really the best part of the stay. I would not return to this hotel and it should not be rated as a four star hotel.

We have just returned from a family break at this hotel - 2 adults and 2 children. We have stayed here before and really like the hotel. Very clean, staff very friendly, food great and the pool etc. were perfect. The only downside was the size of the room for the 4 of us. It was like a standard double room with a double bes, a single bed and a camp bed. Very Very cramped. Also the heat was crazy - we were on the second floor and the heat was way too high. Not only in the room but as soon as the lift door opened - the whole floor was roasting. This combined with the 4 of us in the room made sleeping hard work. We asked for a slightly bigger room after the first night - but there was nothing available. We were disappointed as this did take from the stay a bit. The Kenny Family. 28th Oct - 31st Oct 11.

We just returned from a refreshing Halloween break at the Portlaoise Heritage, the whole family really enjoyed the friendly athmosphere created by the chatty and smiling staff. We had dinner in the Italian style Spago Bistro and Kelly's Foundart Grillhouse resturants both meals were very tasty and great value. The staff were great especially Aidan in Spago. Kelly's bar was not like a normal hotel bar, but had the old world historic feeling of a traditional bar that could have been lost in the countryside but was just down the hallway from the hotel reception and kids games room, leaving the adults enjoy the beautiful sounds of the duo Away with the Faries who's guitar playing and singing entertained us. The only downside was the family room was limited to two adults and two kids, but this did not bother us this time as our oldest was away on a school tour. We look forward to our next family break, The O'Connor family

very enjoyable break in Heritage Hotel Portlaoise - Had dinner across the road in grill house - Food great and staff V friendly and obliging. Spa & Leisure facilities great - rooms clean and comfortable. Car Parking was confusing - you received a voucher from reception - but you had to insert your original car park ticket into the machine first and then insert the voucher - thus paying the balance.. The staff at reception did not explain this at all and we had to pull over and get the car park attendant (who was very helpful - he told us he has this problem with hotel users on an ongoing basis - we were led to assume the voucher replaced the car park ticket as we were told (when booking in ) that the car park price was included in the hotel rate - It covers (I think ) from 6pm until 10.00am - we had to pay €9.00 - we arrived about 2pm and left about 12 noon. Enjoyed the stay. Wasn't impressed with having to pay for parking. We didn't pay for parking last time we stayed there. We were given a card to put in the machine which was valid from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m., when check in is 3 p.m. and check out is 12 p.m. Wasn't impressed with the spa in the hotel or the staff. Me and my friend booked for a fish pedicure. If you want total silence in your spa do not put a tank of fish that will tickle your feet and make you giggle in a hallway!! As far as we could see there was nobody in the spa and we werent even being loud, just the odd giggle and were shushed. Also it is not our job time the treatment so wasn't too impressed wtih being given out to for not switching over after 25 minuites. Room was fine. We were checked in quickly. Food in the grill house was amazing. Really enjoyed that.
