Reviews for `Clybaun Hotel`

Amanda scored 4 / 5 on 30/04/2024

Very welcoming and helpful staff. The hotel food is delicious and the bar has a fantastic atmosphere. The only negative was some cigarette burns in the bedroom and the shower fittings were very rusted.

Such a lovely hotel. Newly refurbished. Super friendly, welcoming, helpful staff throughout the hotel. Ideal location less than 10 minutes drive to Salthill and 15 minutes to galway city. Rooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious. Big swimming pool and outdoor hot tub. Staff are very helpful and understanding to families with children who might not be comfortable in noisy settings. Lovely conservatory area to sit for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Breakfast was delicious and great selection for everyone. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Booked a night here bed and breakfast with evening meal for my hubby’s birthday and was not disappointed. Lovely quiet room. The food was very good -ribs, wings, stir fry all very tasty. Gorgeous pub called Sheridan’s just a short stroll away and a convenience store beside the pub. Great public transport links and lots of parking at hotel. Didn’t try the gym etc but will do so next time. Staff were lovely throughout and very helpful. Really nice rooms - good temperature with excellent showers and huge flat screen tv with great channel choice. Overall decor of hotel was lovely. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his trip and I would jump at chance to visit again.

Very nice hotel, we have stayed here before. However on this occasion we were a bit disappointed with our room. There was no dressing table, there was no shelving in the bathroom and the lighting in the bedroom was very poor. We passed this information on to the receptionist on our check out. Breakfast and dinner was very nice. The hotel is very clean. We would stay here again.

This hotel is excellent. Lovely rooms and location is fantastic near to Galway city. Gym and pool is another great reason to be at this hotel. Ticks all the boxes and will return again.

Olivia scored 2 / 5 on 30/11/2021

Disappointed with the standard of the room, found false nails from previous occupants in locker drawer. There was poor lighting in the room, very hard to read as no spot lights near bed area. The sink got blocked in the bathroom soon after we arrived, and we had to request a new cable for the TV as it kept losing the signal. The above issues were addressed but, I was not assured the room had been given a deep covid clean in advance of my arrival. However, food was lovely and restaurant staff were courteous and attentive.

Mai scored 4 / 5 on 27/11/2021

Firstly the lovely lady on reception Hayley was v helpful, pleasant helped with my phone issues. Staff in Bistro were attentive , cheerful and helpful. Food was very good and piping hot. Bedroom temperature and comfort was perfect. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom spotless with bath ( shower over bath )Leisure centre staff followed on with the same traits. Location was great just minutes from Salthill and the lovely Gateway shopping centre . Hotel was spotless. My only issue was housekeeping knocked on my door 3 times on morning of departure, several hours before check out time. I just told them I wouldn't be checking out until check out time. I will definitely go back PG

Sarragh scored 5 / 5 on 17/11/2021

Weekend away with my friend for some relaxing time and we had a lovely peaceful and comfortable stay at the hotel. The beds are v comfortable, the food was good and the staff just made this hotel a place you d want to go back to. They went out of their way to look after you, other hotels and shops should take a leaf out of their book. It's not in the town so a taxi or car would be needed as it would be a good walk. Maybe get alternative milks for breakfast though and having barista coffees for breakfast would be fab. Cant wait to go back there, highly recommend this hotel.

Mary scored 4 / 5 on 28/09/2021

Overall good impression. A non slip mat in the bath would be a good idea as I almost slipped while having a shower. We had dinner on our first night and the veg were raw. Looked like they were just dipped in hot water to heat them up. We were owed a €20 refund from the vouchers we used for the holiday but they couldn’t give us cash back or charge it to my card?? On the plus side, we were going on a trip early one morning and the restaurant supervisor, Breda, could not do enough for us. Because we were leaving so early, we only had a light breakfast and she gave us a lovely pack of food to take with us. So kudos to Breda!

Mary scored 5 / 5 on 28/09/2021

The Clybaun Hotel is one of the best hotels in Galway. The staff are absolutely fantastic and so friendly. The food is magnificent and the service is first class. The facilities are great and can't wait for the return of live music .I would highly recommend the clybaun to family and friends (and I have to my neighbour who stayed 6 nights and loved it). Looking forward to my return trip to the clybaun.

Was disappointed with the room we were given. The room was located right above the kitchen/bar bins. Every morning woken up by lorry deliveries or bottles been emptied into the bin. Room was dated as well. Breakfast in the morning, we were put in massive conference room on our own, lacking tables in main area. Overall disappointed with the hotel.

David scored 3 / 5 on 11/07/2020

Didn’t enjoy my stay, I understand hotels are just beginning to open but when I got to the room the remote control was broke, got new batteries and still didn’t work, the swimming pool we had booked, we had to walk from the room to the pool in our swim gear and had to dry and the side of the pool and walk back to the room wet, passed a lobby filled with business men and women, the kids were frozen. 3 days were there and couldn’t wait to go home. Hopefully it picks up when Covid starts to disappear.

We recently had an overnight stay in the Clybaun hotel which was very enjoyable. We were given a warm welcome at reception, had a lovely room which was in a quiet place as requested. All of the staff were efficient and courteous at all times. Had a delicious dinner, good variety of food on the menu and of course the buffet breakfast had it all, from various juices, cereals, fruit, yogurts, different breads, the usual full Irish and all that goes with it! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return in the not too distant future.

stayed for 3 nights on a lidl b&b & dinner offer. was really surprised with how lovely a hotel The Clybaun is. had read some mixed reviews previously but the hotel itself is very well maintained, lovely furnishings and the staff extrem, ely friendly and helpful from front reception through to dining room and the leisure centre family room was great size 2 single and 1 double bed food was very good in the dining room and bar, couldnt fault either used the leisure centre and loved the gym, great range of equipment and had a 2nd weight room in basement and aerobic studio with plenty of classes at extra cost. very busy leisure centre would definitely go back. within walking 10mins of a huge dunnes, next newlook and b&q shopping park within 5 mins is Tom Sheridans pub and resaturant. a fantastic olde worle pub with great food and lovely staff Clybaun is not in Galway city but only a 10-15min drive to centre depending on traffic or 30min bus ride away. perfect for us.

My family and I stayed in the Clybaun for two nights last weekend. I found the hotel clean and well laid out. The rooms were spacious and clean with all that we needed within. Service was prompt and the food was excellent. The staff were all helpful and efficient. There was one member of staff that really stood out to us as a family and that was Breda who worked in the restaurant. She was fantastic to us and really made a big effort with our children so much so that they wanted to go and say goodbye to her when we were leaving on Sunday Morning. She gave them both a bar or chocolate which meant more to them than anything we had done the whole weekend. As a parent of an eight and ten year old I have to say it was lovely for someone to take notice of them and make them feel special. We will certainly visit the Clybaun again in the near future because o the warm welcome we received, especially from Breda.

Also, I want to give a mention to the musician in the bar on Sat night 3rd Oct for his great entertainment. Thank you all so much. Jack ( you know who I am)

I have just returned from my second stay at the Clybaun Hotel and will return early in the new year. The staff were extremely helpful and Very pleasant. I was given the same room I stayed in on our first visit by request which as usual was clean and everything in working order with a nice view looking out over the front. It is very convenient to travel to Galway as the bus stops just out side the gate, It is very good value but I would like to see an improvement on the food. Service is excellent and the breakfast was a perfect start to the day. Yes I will be returning.

Good hotel, friendly staff, rooms very comfortable, nice lounge and good Leisure Centre. Located a little outside the city so if not driving you need to take a taxi into the city itself which cost approx € 12, would recommend for families staying. Rgds, Brian Kildare

WE HAD A GREAT TIME IN THE CLYBAUN.ITS A VERY NICE HOTEL. THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD AND THE STAFF VERY POLITE AND FRIENDLY. OUR TELEVISION WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THE STOPPER IN THE SINK WAS STUCK. WE BROUGHT THOSE MATTERS TO ATTENTION OF RECEPTION WHEN CHECKING OUT SO HOPEFULLY THEY WILL BE SORTED OUT FOR NEXT CUSTOMER.

The whole family loved this hotel. It has recently been refurbished and everywhere looked lovely. whilst our family room was without a view, the space therein more than compensated for this deficit. The staff were pleasant and professional and the food was magnificent and plentiful.

We've stayed at the Clybaun several times and will keep coming back. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Good spacious rooms. Pool etc clean and great for kids. Breakfast gorgeous. And loads of space for you to relax with kids nearby (huge conservatory and lobby). great for a family break.

We've stayed at the Clybaun several times and have enjoyed each stay immensely. Hotel is always spotless. Staff friendly and helpful. what we like most is that the children are made feel welcome and there is plenty of space (the lobby and conservatory) where you can relax with children in the evening, Often you feel confined in a hotel room with children but not so in the Clybaun. They also thoroughly enjoy the pool and the location, near to Salthill is very convenient.

the hotel itself was fine clean and staff friendly. However, we ate in dining room on the 2nd night and the service and food was not good. Plates were dirty, service slow and food not great standard. I wrote to the management after my visit but did not get any reply. Know I got a good deal price wise but that doesn't mean the hotel should lower its standard, big competition in Galway with lots of hotels to choose from all giving good rates.

arrived on saturday 13th sept and found the room to be adequate and when we checked in we confirmed that my wife was a coaeliac and as such would need consideration for dinner. we were advised this would b not a problem however shortly after we had eaten dinner it was clear that my wives food was not totally gluten free as she suffere severe stomach pains and sickness. next morning we were very dissapointed to discover that my wife was unable to have much breakfast as there was no gluten free bread or cereal offered and she was unable even to eat the bacon as it was served in same container as the sausages which caused cross contamination to the bacon. in this day and age we find it hard to believe that coealiacs are not catered for in a modern hotel and as a result we would not return or recommend your hotel.

Just back from a wonderful weekend at the clybaun, the staff are fantastic always helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is very nice and the leisure centre is great, lovely pool and the outside juzzuci wonderful. The bedrooms are spacious and perfect for families but a little dated. We had dinner on both nights of our stay in the restaurant and it was fab. Our server was just fantastic and I'm sorry I never got her name she was wonderful and made us feel so comfortable, even when our children were getting very noisy. We will definitely be returning.

We stayed at the Clybaun Hotel for 2 nights last weekend. The hotel was lovely and the rooms were very spacious. The swimming pool was great, the kids really enjoyed it. Overall we had a very good time. The only let down was the evening meal in the Restaurant. We booked breakfast and evening meal which was 2 courses. The main meal menu was very restricted, the choice wasn't good at all. We had our meal on the second evening in the bar which was much much nicer but a better variety. If I was staying the this hotel again I would just go B&B as the breakfast was really lovely.

Had a really great stay. The nicest part of the hotel was its staff. From the patient receptionist to the staff in the spa and leisure centre. Down side is that its a pity they don't have more spa treatment rooms. A lovely girl ( I think Rianna??) did my nails in a very small room upstairs. It was very relaxing for me but the poor girls back was broken but she never complained. Would definitely go back again. May sign post it better from Salthill !!!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Clybaun, lovely hotel and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. The only negatives were the service in the bar for food was very very slow and the options on the menu for the dinner package was limited. Other than that, could not fault this hotel.

Nice hotel. Nice large lobby. Rooms are big and clean. Furniture is a bit old now and could do with upgrading. TV wasn’t flat screen. Breakfast was just o.k. Only 2 choices of bread, 3 -4 fruit choices which was disappointing and no continental option. Overall, not bad hotel but breakfast choice needs to improve.

just back from spending 2 days in the Clydbaun the staff very friendly and hotel clean towels a little worn and treadbare no shower hats .also no signage on approaching roads.

Judit scored 2 / 5 on 10/07/2014

The room was good and clean (good job housekeeping) , but we couldn't open the windows well, so we didn't have air in the room (we were 4 of us in). We could not use the shower head because it is fix and it was not enough pressure in the water. The hair dryer is stopped after 30 sec, it was so poor quality. The breakfast was good, but the fried eggs were too dry, unfortunately they had pastry and fruits just on the 2. morning. (we were there 2 nights) We had dinner for 1 evening for the 2 adults. On the voucher they wrote down we have to pay after the kids, for the steak, after then extra adults. I ordered duck, and on the bill we had to pay 7 euro supplement. The young blonde server could not explain what is that. (but she said she has to charge...) She also charged my beer what I've already paid before the dinner. I asked the evening receptionist about the "supplement" but she told me that is the kids dinner (but it was NOT). During this time, they had 2 complain about the drink charging... When we check out I ask the morning receptionist about the "supplement" (3. person!) and she told me this is extra price because the duck is extra. The blonde server did not tell me the duck is extra as well, not just the steak... Just on person could smile during the 2 days, the oldest lady during the breakfast (unfortunately i don't remember her name) and of course the staff when we said good bye... The staff is so undereducated...

We would not wish to return to t his hotel.

We had a fab stay at the Clybaun. 2 adults and 3 kids under 10. Couldn't fault it. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and very polite helpful staff. Rooms spotless large and comfortable. Kids had a great time in the pool and the long conservatory corridor is an ideal place to sit of an evening having a drink whilst kids ran about outside playing, where we could see them. The Hotel is great for young families in that respect i.e. safe and plenty of room for kids to mooch about an no one bothering you about them!

Had a 2 day break march 29th group of four adults. Had stayed in the hotel before, in a good location, room was good, found staff to be very helpful, breakfast was very plentiful. Booked table for evening meal, while service was ok the meal was average. Pool area very clean and hot tub was brilliant. Overall had a great stay, and would recommend this hotel.

Great location easy access to Salthill and Galway City Centre. Stayed in a family room plenty of room for a family of 4, room was clean but a bit shabby round the edges, paint flaking and holes in bed linen. A little noisy in the evening and a strong smell of smoke from another room but can blame the hotel for rude guests. Some staff were friendly others not so helpful. Use of the leisure facilities was most welcome

Colcat71 scored 4 / 5 on 11/03/2014

Just back from a two day weekend break at the Hotel Clybaun. We are a family of four with two kids aged 3 and 7. We had a lovely time overall. Our family room was large (2 single plus a queen sized bed) and clean with all the usual facilities (tea/ coffee making, TV, hairdryer etc.). We had some issues with noise but this was not the hotel's fault - just inconsiderate people with a few drinks on them. We found the staff to be courteous, helpful and child-friendly (including in the dining room) Having access to the leisure centre was a real bonus for us.The toddler pool was ideal for our son to play about in in safety. With kids in tow, we had not nearly the amount of time that we would have liked in the outdoor hot tub and (indoor) jacuzzi. We found the leisure centre to be clean, well-equipped and with good opening hours. Breakfast was great with a huge variety of food. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was just okay - nothing to complain about but a little disappointing for the price paid. On the whole, we would be happy to return - though we would ask, on booking, that our room not be near any groups of 'lads on tour'!!

Lovely hotel especially for a family break. Room was clean and staff were friendly. Food was fabulous Only negative was pool was taken up by aqua aerobics and children were not allowed use the adult lanes to swim, if they had told us that before going in we would have waited til later in the day. Lacks a bit of athmosphere in the bar but there wasnt many around so could explain that. Overall I would recommend and will stay again.

We stayed at this hotel last weekend with our three little children. Niamh kindly gave us a refurbished room which I requested and it was great! It had two double beds and a cot for our baby, a plasma screen and a beautiful bathroom. More importantly, it was warm and cozy. The pool for the kids was good but maybe a bit too cold. We couldn't stay in it longer than 30mins. It has an outdoor hot tub for the adults which was brilliant and a lovely surprise. We had dinner both nights in the restaurants and they couldn't do enough for us and it was the same for breakfast. We went for walks in Salthill which is miutes away and also when it was raining, we visited a children's activity centre called Monkey Business nearby which the kids loved. There is plenty to do in the area and the location is great. The staff were brilliant and we just couldn't fault it. We most definitely will be back.

Hi, Hotel was nice and the staff very friendly. Initially they put my parents in a sub-standard twin room with stains on the carpet and torn curtains. We upgraded them to a suite as it was my mothers 70th but I had asked for a nice room for them so was a bit disappointed with that service. The heat didn't work initially in the suite but they managed to get it working after a few hours. It is a nice hotel though and convenient for Salthill. We had a lovely meal as well included in the package.

HI recently stayed at the hotel and the staff were great, very helpful and extremely pleasant, Dinner was lovely we paid the extra supplement for steak and duck and the meal was very enjoyable and service great. The rooms were spacious and clean, we required an extra blanket and within minutes this was dropped up to our room. Didnt get the time to use the pool but could see there was an outdoor hottub which looked inviting.. the hotel is a bit out of town so a car is handy and google maps was great in finding the hotel when leaving from the City Centre, think we may have struggled otherwise on the dark evening that it was. Breakfast was lovely self service and plenty of everything , and for a change even the hotel coffee served at breakfast was good ( it was in one of those self service containers) so i expected it to be overbrewed etc you know how it can tase at times ! Would stay again and no complaints

Overall we were happy enough with the hotel but there were a few issues that could definitely do with getting resolved. The main thing was the amount of stains in the room, on the carpet, the lamp shades etc. The bath was broken and part of the side was coming apart. Our duvet cover was ripped at the end so the duvet kept coming out. In general I think the hotel is in need of some renovation and updating. The staff were friendly and the food, dinner and breakfast, was very nice. For the price we were paying on a bank holiday weekend it was very reasonable. Despite the few issues I would probably stay there again as the bus service in to the city was great so if the price was right I would stay there again.

I booked weekend 11th October with 4 friends at Clybaun Hotel and we had a fantastic time. Hotel very clean, our rooms spotless, very comfortable and cosy. We booked package for 2 nights including dinner which we had no complaints with, food was hot and tasty, we also enjoyed a hearty breakfast both mornings. We used the leisure centre including outdoor Jacuzzi which was very enjoyable. The hotel is just a few minutes from Salthill and one can enjoy a lovely walk along the prom. We went by bus to Galway on the saturday and it was so handy to have a bus service outside hotel. Saturday night there was a great athmosphere in the bar with a guy singing and a great night was experienced by all. I would definately recommend the Clybaun Hotel to family and friends.

I have to say what great value for money! The leisure centre is excellent but the most important thing for us was the reception we got upon arrival and also the friendliness of the staff over the few days we were there. Remember it is a 3 Star hotel, in a wonderful city so you really do get what you pay for. I agree with some other reviewers who described it as quite shabby at times and the food is really only average but tasty all the same. The dinners certainly could have been hotter but the staff were so nice we really did not want to complain. I would certainly recommend it and revisit it again. The deal was well worth it. I would also like to point out that most of the hotel is very well kept. The shabbiness was most apparent in the conservatory area, which is such a shame because it is a fabulous space. Well done to the staff and thank you for a lovely stay.

My husband, my 17 month old and I booked in for one night b&b and dinner and it was excellent value. The Clybaun has loads of space for a toddler to run about and not annoy other guests. The staff were friendly and the dinner and breakfast were really very good. Breakfast is served till 11 on Saturdays which is great. Although not in the city centre, the hotel is near Salthill and a shopping centre. The changing facilities for the swimming pool were very good and the pool was lovely. My only quibble was that we should have been informed about the Saturday morning swimming classes as we couldn't get near the baby pool. Am already planning our next stay

We had a 2 night stay in Aug 2013. I would rate the hotel a 3 star. What i must say is that any of the staff were not a bit friendly. And this comes from someone that runs her own business and insists that her staff are friendly helpful and treat customers in an appropate manner. One night in the restaurant i asked a waitress for an extra scoop of mash potato for a child and was told they had no more potato so i don't know what the other people that dined after us were to eat. None of the restaurant stuff were too nice.Rooms were basic . Just an ok. Hotel. Wouldn't be rushing back.

The Clybaun Hotel was a very pleasant experience, overall. It's nice, tidy and clean with very helpful staff. The only criticism that I have is the changing area for the swimming pool. They are single male/female changing rooms with no family rooms for small children. Other than that, a fantastic hotel and we would stay again!

We as a family group stayed at Clybaun Galway last weekend and really enjoyed our stay. Great value on Lidl breaks . The hotel was easy to find and access to Salthill just down road. It is a pity the spa only has one treatment room downstairs and was almost booked out, so I would advise booking your spa treatments in advance. The staff were really helpful and nothing was took much trouble. Breakfast was fab also . Would stay again and recommend this hotel .

I booked a Saturday night away here for myself, our teenage daughter and my parents. Had a really lovely time. Facilities are good here and we had dinner booked as part of our very competitive package. The dinner and bar service by the staff was friendly, courteous and efficient. The food we can highly recommend and there was very good entertainment in the bar also - it wasn't the usual "guy making noise in the corner for the sake of it!" I would have preferred a wider access to the wifi, it is only available in the lobby, but at least it does have plenty of comfy chairs. The hotel is exactly what you should expect from any 3 star hotel, good prices, quality food and service and clean and comfortably appointed. Would stay again no problem!

Excellent, was very surprised. Although the location was a bit out of the way, it was compensated by the beautiful pool, outdoor hot-tub and friendly, staff. The breakfast was delicious and the bistro where it was served was bright and upmarket.Would certainly recommend. the bedroom was large and bright with a good few tv channels and it has a big, clean bathroom with a lovely long bath.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay in the Clybaun Hotel. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful girl at reception and the stay went on from there. All the rest of the staff were very nice also from the restaurant to the bar and bedrom staff. I stay in alot of hotels through work where staff are rude and have no manners so this was a welcome change. We will stay there again at a later date. Thank you Clybaun hotel!!

Stayed at the Clybaun 20th-22nd July. I had read some reviews after booking and was worried about the negative comments placed. We could not understand why. This is a lovely hotel in a nice quiet location just outside Galway City, with helpful & friendly staff. Room was lovely & clean. Dinner included in our package on both nights for just under €200 - can't complain about that. Did not use the leisure facility. Only complaint was about the hair dryer which would only run for a minute before cutting out and having to wait a couple of minutes for it to work again. All in all a lovely stay. Would definitely go back again and would recommend to friends. Mike & Mags - Kildare.

Hotel was nice and comfortable and staff very friendly, BUT the food was not up to standard and we were very disapointed in this. We had a two night stay and our first night the hotel was very busy as the euro qualifiers where on and the food was burnt and covered in sauce, but as it was the qualifiers we put it down to this, but unfortunatly for us the second night was very simular and we had to return the food. As the meal was a part of the Lidi deal and we where asked to pay up front on arrival we where at a lost,

We availed of the "midweek madness" deal which was good value, staying from 21st to 24th May. Lovely hotel, very pleasant & courteous staff, very good leisure facilities & nice food. We had dinner on the last night of our stay which was served cold. When we asked the waitress to bring it back for re-heating we got the impression from her that we were blaming her & that we were a nuisance. The relationship after that was strained & uncomfortable. We complained to the girl at reception who apologised profusely & said she would pass it on to management. That one small incident spoiled what was otherwise a very pleasant stay at the Clybaun. We would welcome feedback from management. Dave & Marie, Blackrock, Co. Dublin.

My family & I (2 adults & 2 kids) spent 2 nights in the Clybaun Hotel last week during the Easter Holidays. We had a very enjoyable time there. The staff members were very friendly & helpful. The family room was nice, the only negative comment on the room is that the carpet was shabby & torn in a few places around the beds. The 2 breakfasts we had were excellent & very tasty. We had dinner in the hotel on our first evening as this came with our package. My husband & 2 kids enjoyed their meals but mine wasn't great. We enjoyed the pool & leisure centre also & the hot tub outside was an extra bonus!. We will definitely be back to the Clybaun Hotel again.

Nothing for kids except the pool which was a big let down. Kids pool was also being used for local swimming lessons and we were limited to big pool with our 2 year old.. Rooms were clean and serviced daily, hotel location ok and has a good bus service to the city (15 min) but no direct service to salthill beach 30-45 min walk.

My Wife and I stayed last weekend at Hotel Clybaun in Galway city and can only say positive things about it. Right from the start the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the leisure centre was very enjoyable and we were allocated a lovely large room. The Clybaun Hotel is excellent value for money and we feel in fact, underpriced. Next time we're in that part of the world we'll definitely make a return visit. D.Webster

I stayed in the hotel last weekend. it is a gorgeous hotel with very friendly staff. only negative comment is that I left my iphone charger plugged in the room by accident, and when I rang the next day to retrieve it , it was gone and nothing was done about it. So a bit wary that there is seemingly no policy for lost and found items in rooms in place within the Hotel. Catherine from Clare

We had booked to stay in this hotel for a weekend in March 2012. On arrival the hotel looks clean and reception area is bright and clean. The rooms however are a completely doffierent story. The paint work is filthy dirty and I mean filthy dirty, The carpets are old and worn to the point they are almost threadbare. There is also a really bad old smell in the rooms. The furniture isn't much better and for a hotel it is very very substandard. We told the girls on reception we were not happy to pay money for the room and they gave us a choice of another two rooms which were no better then the first room. We decided there and then not to stay in the hotel and I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody. Completely substandard and is in dire need of a lick of paint and new carpets because there is no way you would walk bare foot on the carpets in any of the 3 bedrooms we were shown.

Sinead scored 1 / 5 on 07/03/2012

Booked into this hotel for a weekend with my husband. On arrival into the lobby the hotel looks clean and nice. However the bedrooms are a different story. Our double room was a disgrace. It was small , the walls were filthy dirty and looked like they hadn't seen a paint brush in 10 years. The furniture was so old and battered , it was a disgrace. On complaining to staff we were given a choice of two other rooms but neither of these rooms were any better. All 3 rooms had a bad Old smell in them and they all need new carpets, windows cleaned and the walls painted. We refused to stay or pay for a room of this standard and requested a refund and left. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and it would stop me ever booking anything through TodayFmbreaks again because if this is the standard of hotel on the books it's embarrassingly bad.

Stayed there for two nights this week. We found the hotel clean bright and spacious. The food included in our package was tasty and nicely served, All staff we met were friendly and helpful. The young lady who checked us in was from Lithuania and her excellent English , with a slight "forigen" accent mixed with a Galway one was as easy on the ear as she was on the eye. We really enjoyed our stay. The only negative comment is regarding a strange low pitched sound that was there all night in our room and made getting to sleep difficult. We told the receptionist about it when checking out , NOT a complaint just an observation. They said that no guest had ever mentioned it before and they had no idea what it could be. Neither had we, but I suggest that one of the staff could sleep in the room (210) and see for themselves. Only for this we would give the hotel five stars. We will return and look foreward to doing so.

Hotel was really lovely, staff very pleasant only complaint was we arrived shortly before 9 pm and there was no food available and we had been travelling for a few hours and were hungry, we had to phone a taxi and went to Salthill for something to eat. As we were under pressure to leave early the following morning we didnt get to avail of the leisure centre but it looked amazing. Hotel was spotless, buffet breakfast was fabulous and nothing too much trouble for anyone. I would definately recommend it to anyone and look forward to returning myself shortly.

The Hotel reception and bar area were very inviting and pleasant. The room was spacious and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Unfortunately, on the night on which we stayed, there was strong winds which created a draft from our bedroom window. I would suggest that the Hotel either get the windows repaired or replaced because even the windows in the staircase and corridor howled with the wind. We also had a meal in the restaurant which is very modern and tastefully decorated. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the food. It was poor to mediocre. Bar food elsewhere would have been better. Another guest told me that the bar food he had at the Hotel on the night before, was better than the food he received in the restaurant on the same night we dined there. Overall 3 out of 5.

The Hotel Clybaun is a great place to stay. Rooms are very clean and the facilities are perfect even for kids. There is a great bus service and getting a taxi doesn't take long at all. The hotel is situated not far from the beaches and there is a lovely walk which is very popular at all times of the day and night. The city is a short drive away which makes the hotel the perfect place to stay for any occasion.

As like a lot of GOLDEN OLDIES they will find this hotel lacks respect for people staying in this HOTEL. My comments start with HARD TO FIND.I stayed the W/E of the ALL IRELAND FOOTBALL FINAL and was watching the game when without any warning at !6.00 Hrs they switch over to Man U Game. I saw i chap raise rent a crowd to have the channel changed I objected in the most and outrage as to what had happened. I got NO satisfaction from the Management and Staff THEY did not want to know anything about the appalling treatment to two golden oldies who booked for a relaxing w/e. First as visitors we were treated badly, then insulted with lies, one other quest remarked to management that I was watching the TV before the Local Man U supporter arrived and had the channel changed. I HAD REQUESTED FROM THE DESK,BARSTAFF TO WATCH THE GAA FOOTBALL ALL IRELAND FINAL & THE MATCH WAS ON TV UNTIL HALF TIME. MY COMPLAINTS WENT UNHEEDED. I will never visit that location again and a lot of harm to GALWAY AND THE TRIBE OF ATHY WHERE THIS HOTEL IS LOCATED at the round about. MY ADVICE IS STAY CLEAR OF THE CLYBAUN. GAA IN GALWAY CHECK IT OUT.WHAT AN INSULT TO IRISH PEOPLE AS THE HAD NO HISTORY OF CROKE PARK. NO GAA CLUB SHOULD HOLD ANY DINNERS,MEETINGS ETC., AND I ASKED FOR THE OWNER TO CONTACT ME TO SEE WOULD HE TALK WITH ME ON RADIO.nothing heard. so no I did not enjoy my stay in this hotel. Galway City still has its charm but I left Galway with a bad taste in my mouth. hostile reaction? star rating ZERO NO STAR RATING

Great stay in the Clybaun Hotel. The distance was quite a bit away from the city(20mins drive could cost €15 in a taxi). But as it was a relaxing stay and the weather was awful we didn't mind staying in the hotel and it did not disappoint. Great live music on the Saturday night and the food was 1st class, the service was great and staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is very clean and welcoming but the rooms are not great. The NRG leisure center was great, clean and lovely changing facility's just bring your own towels. Even braved the hot tub in the rain not to be missed. The only thing I had to mark down on this hotel was the room, it did look like the picture but as they say looks can be deceiving, the furniture was old and worn, which wasn't the problem what was, was the fact that our room looked over a housing estate and had no blind or net curtain, which means i had to pull the curtains over when in the room at all times. The carpet was not a nice sight,Im glad i packed my slippers I would not have walked on it bare foot. There was a head board with no bed? Over all it was just Ok, the bathroom was nice and clean too. I would have given top marks to this hotel only for the rooms, which were a let down. New carpets, a blind and a lick of paint could easily move this hotel up a star.. :)

I would definetly recommend the Clybaun Hotel to all my friends and family. The warm welcome and the rooms were terrific and spotless. The food in the hotel was magnificent and very very reasonable. The over all value was fantastic and I give it 10/10. I definetly will use Lidl Hotel breaks again. The best thing about the hotel was the leisure centre and their own private car park. The last time I stayed in Eyre sq galway and it cost me over €40 for car parking a rip off. Once again a fantastic Hotel - well done Lidl's Mary Purcell

A beautiful and inviting reception area and foyer with a very tastefully decorated bar and dining area. The rooms however were tired and damaged with torn vinyl on fitted units. The leisure centre was nice with friendly and helpful staff but again a bit tired and in need of a spruce up. The hotel is very nice and clean, but some services are very bad- The dinner is not available in the room so i have to celebrate my birthday in the restaurant and no internet in the room i expected to have a chart with my family from skype so i was very disappointed and we are waiting for dinner very long our child wanted sleep but we have to wait and portions size was different next day The swimm.pool very small and the sauna and steam room the smallest what i ever seen can only fit about 5-6 persons jacuzzi inside can fit 2-3 persons and lockers is not lockable When we checking out they try to overcharge us but we are sort it out I would not be recommend this hotel for the families with kids

The hotel is lovely. very spacious rooms. We were upgraded to a suite which was nice. Food excellent. Staff very nice. The hotel is a little difficult to find as it is a little outside Salthill, though at the time there were roadworks and traffic diversions. We had great time at the hotel.

The Hotel was lovely staff very friendly, leisure facilities were really well kept. The room was very basic and could do with some modernisation. The lobby area was beautiful. I found the staff lovely but they didn't really make a big effort to give the big irish welcome and make sure you got the best deal when it came to the food. I was there with my son and there was no effort made with him at all which I would have expected from an irish hotel.

Stayed in this hotel 15th &16th July. Found the staff very friendly & lobby & restaurant area very nice as it had been newly renovated . However I found our bedroom not so nice. Although we had only booked a double room it was obvious there was a single bed missing from the room & the skirting board that this bed would have hidden was badly water damaged & in need in paint. The carpet was also damaged where a section had been cut out & stuck back down, we were also missing a table & chairs which were clearly visible from all other rooms, So all that was in the room was a double bed with alot of space around it. These are little details that can be easily fixed.. just a shame as weekend breaks are few & far between these days!

Good value for money, clean, relatively modern hotel with good leisure facilities. Quiet location outside the city, only a few minutes journey by car/taxi.

Noflan scored 3 / 5 on 11/07/2011

Friendly & efficient staff but the rooms need a big makeover. Dodgey plumbing & worn carpets sort of thing. Don't know if it's a NAMA Zombie or just that the owners wont re-invest? Bit more suitable for exploring Connemara than Galway city.

Our room in this hotel was filthy, there was blood stains on the carpet, mould on the wall, the coffee table was dirty and covered in stains, i have never stayed in such a filthy hotel. We asked to see the manager twice and we were told he was on the phone and then in a meeting on our third attempt we got talking to him he said the room we were in should on have been giving to anyone moved us into another room which was nearly as bad. Would never dream of going back here AVOID at all costs! Its more like student digs than a hotel. Really health and safety should pay them a visit asap.

I stayed in the Clybaun Hotel for one night Sat 18th June, I found the Hotel clean and very spacious, the staff were all very pleasant, I made use of the leisure facilities which were also of a high standard. The only complaint I would have is the food, I was disappointed with the meal I got in the bar on Saturday evening, I felt it was of low standard, My husband had sour milk in his cereal ! at breakfast time

We stayed in the Clybaun Hotel for two nights last weekend, and were very happy with our stay. We booked it through the Lidl website, and were very impressed with the value offered on this and many other hotel breaks on offer. In fact, it was such good value that I thought that the hotel could not possibly be a very good one, and yet be so affordable. But we were delighted with everything there. The staff were lovely, especially Dora on reception, who deserves a special mention for her efficiency when I rang to check something, and her warm welcome when we arrived. Our room was very spacious, extremely clean and comfortable. The reception and bar areas were spacious and comfortable, and while I didn't use the gym area, I looked in and it looked very good. The pool was lovely, and we availed of a special pampering treatment in the beauty spa to finish off a lovely weekend. I would certainly reccomend this hotel to anyone, and I will definitely be keeping an eye on the Lidl website to see if we might take advantage of the special offers again.

friendly staff, lovely receptionist. Food at night in the bar was not great, also a very long wait. Clean, comfortable room, but had to ask twice for shower gel and towels as there was not enough. Hard to find hotel also

Good points: Hotel staff very friendly, food very good and leisure centre is lovely especially the hot tub. Bad points: further out than we thought (took train for relaxing weekend would need car) taxis quite expensive %u20AC10-%u20AC12 each way and bus service not reliable going into town. Rooms need a litte updating. Overall would reccomend it but need own transport more suited for sightseeing than shopping/entertainment

We had a very pleasant one night stay recently at the Clybaun Hotel. The hotel is in a great location, about a five minute drive from Salthill and the beach. Rooms are lovely, very clean and comfortable, and have all necesssary facilities. Food is excellent and staff very helpful. Lidl breaks are excellent valur for money.

Excellent hotel, good location for city and Salthill. Good entertainment on both Saturday and Sunday night which started a bit late! Busy spot, quite a wait for bar food on the sunday night and not warm enough when served. Good efficient staff. Good clean surroundings.

We stayed in this hotel overnight and found it a nice hotel with friendly staff and lovely food , its a bit far from Eyre Square in Galway but its only a short taxi ride away . i would recommend it but bring some shower gel or soap as thats was the only thing really lacking in the room.

Hotel is a bit far from Galway and Salthill but good if touring around Connemara. Decor in hotel is also a bit tired but rooms and public area very clean and comfortable. Food was very good and service was prompt, staff were very friendly and helpfull and I would definately stay there again. Lidl breaks are great value, have used them 3 times and the hotels have all been good.

The hotel itself was very nice if aging. There were no lockers in leisure centre only if you bought a lock for %u20AC8.This I found was a set back.Food was also good

I checking in we waited 15 min with two members of staff on duty. We ordered dinnear to be left waiting 40 min for starter and a further 55min for our main course to be served which was cold when served. I ordered extra pillows which where to be sent up to the room twice, we still had not got them when going to bed. The receptions told me she would get house keeping to give them to us, no appology for the delay only I sent the porter up after your phonecall last night. The Hotel overall was lovely but the service was very bad.

lid l breaks are great value for money and we will be using your site again . the hotel was in need of a lick of paint, cob webs in our room some of the carpet in the hotel was thread bare, the staff were very friendly and the food was lovely and we had free entry to the pool and leisure centre , we would use this hotel again

We had a really nice stay at this hotel. It was great value for money. The room was clean and comfortable. New towels arrived each day. The breakfast was decent, and you could pretty much eat as much as you wanted. The staff were friendly and helpful. The best thing about it was probably the gym, swimming pool and sauna, which you can use for free when staying at the hotel. The only drawback was the distance from the town centre. You need a car really, because it takes about 45 minutes to walk it, and we couldn'd easily track down any direct busses.

Young couple. The best thing about this hotel is the relaxed atmosphere. The locals in the area also have the hotel bar as their local pub so its a friendly atmosphere. The bar tender Ross was so friendly and funny and made us feel so welcome. does great cocktails. room was nice and clean. beds comfortable. outdoor hot tub is cool.
